July was a whirlwind month for Hulu, with the addition of classics like My Cousin Vinny (1992) to the spectacular debut of Palm Springs. August brings Hulu’s latest slate which includes many more exciting titles. Most notably, a handful of Star Trek works arrive on planet Hulu along with Top Gun, Casino Royale, and the streaming service’s latest original, The Binge.
There are also a few 2020 films being added to the platform, such as the horror Behind You and drama The Roads Not Taken. Although both of these films were not well received, now’s the chance to see for yourself. Not willing to make the gamble? We recommend you take comfort in the slew of Star Trek titles or finally catch up on any cult or major hits on your list. Besides the previously listed, you have the original Child’s Play, Hellraiser, and My Bloody Valentine at your disposal. If those don’t appeal to your taste either then maybe these other recommendations will.

Slay the Dragon
A definite recommendation is Magnolia Pictures’ Slay the Dragon. As the next United States presidential election quickly approaches, a documentary about gerrymandering is worth a watch. The film is an informative work on the horrific effects of gerrymandering in America, an issue which politicians on both sides of the spectrum use to manipulate voting.
The Peanut Butter Falcon
One of the most worthwhile indie gems of 2019, The Peanut Butter Falcon is just as riveting as it is heartwarming. Following two people from completely different worlds in the most unlikely of tales, the film set a new bar for special needs representation in film last year. Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson, and rising star Zack Gottsagen make this a must watch for the streaming service.
3:10 to Yuma
Now couldn’t be a better time to visit James Mangold’s 3:10 to Yuma. See the visionary director utilize his eye for western cinema to the highest degree. Many argue that his 2007 remake lead by Christian Bale and Russell Crowe is better than the 1957 original. It’s hard to argue against this when the remake is jam-packed with talent and executed so precisely. Settle the debate while you enjoy what is still one of the 2000’s most thrilling genre films.
