New Arrivals for Disney+ July 2021

The month of June saw Disney+ hit a certain stride as it continued to solidify its presence among the top contenders in the streaming world. From Luca to Loki, June’s new offerings spanned a variety of genres and franchises, and July will be no different on Disney+.

With two major Premier Access releases, July will up the ante for Disney+ subscribers, bringing Jungle Cruise and Black Widow to the platform at the same time as they hit theaters. As new episodes of hit series like Loki, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and The Bad Batch continue, fans will also see the beginning of Disney+’s exclusive Monsters, Inc. spin-off, Monsters at Work!

July is also National Geographic’s SharkFest – a month of content celebrating these toothy Chondrichthyes. Shows like Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth will be hitting Disney+ a few days after their premiere on the National Geographic TV channel. From investigative documentaries to educational TV specials, NatGeo’s SharkFest offerings will have a little bit of everything for anyone interested in tuning in. Check out more on our recs along with everything coming to Disney+ in July below, see what’s also in store for Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max right here on DiscussingFilm.

Our Recs:

Monsters at Work

From Pixar and Disney Television Animation comes a follow-up to the 2001 hit film Monsters Inc! Featuring a mix of new and returning, beloved characters, the series will follow the aftermath of the events seen in the original film – most notably the switch to Laugh Power and the subsequent retirement of Scarers at Monsters, Incorporated. We’ve got even more details on Monsters at Work here.

Following Disney+’s new Wednesday release schedule for originals moving forward, the show will release new episodes in the middle of each week, free for subscribers.

The first episode of Monsters at Work hits Disney+ July 7!

Black Widow

While many will likely opt to watch this one in a theater, the MCU’s first feature since 2019, Black Widow, will be releasing simultaneously on Disney+’s Premier Access service. The story follows the titular character after the events of Captain America: Civil War as she uncovers a conspiracy about her past.

Featuring “well-directed action and great leading performances from [Scarlett} Johansson and [Florence] Pugh,” the film seems to be a post-Endgame palate cleanser as Marvel moves along in its Phase Four plans.

Premier Access to Black Widow will be available to Disney+ subscribers for $30 the same day it hits theaters, July 9

Jungle Cruise

The latest live-action film based on an iconic Disneyaland ride, Jungle Cruise is looking to capture the same magic of its predecessors. And this very well might be the case for its swagger and roaring thrills are very reminiscent of Disney’s previous Pirates of the Caribbean films.

The Rock and Emily Blunt lead an exotic expedition into the Amazon, their mission is to find an ancient tree with mystical healing abilities. The film certainly has all the workings of a hit blockbuster, which is why excited fans will still have the option to see this with a crowd in a theater.

Premier Access to Jungle Cruise will be available to Disney+ subscribers for $30 the same day it hits theaters, July 30
