Marvel’s ‘THE DEFENDERS’ is the culmination of four TV shows in development since 2013, first reported by DEADLINE. 4 Shows crossing over into one miniseries, while being connected to an entire Cinematic Universe is an unprecedented feat, but can it live up to the acclaim of it’s predecessors such as ‘DAREDEVIL’ and ‘JESSICA JONES’ ?

‘THE DEFENDERS’ is an amalgamation of the best of each of it’s predeceasing solo series’, while creating a unique and distinguished show from these series’ in its own right. The characterizations of DAREDEVIL, JESSICA JONES, LUKE CAGE and IRON FIST are accurate and respectful to the pre-established depictions of each character. Character development is not sidelined to serve this, each main character is allocated room to develop themselves and relationships with the supporting cast of their shows.

Each character is given adequate time to establish relationships with each other. The chemistry between the main cast seems genuine and how the different main characters interact with one another and how their relationships progress is a highlight of the series.

Each main character receives independent story lines along with the supporting cast of their respective shows. The intersection of these arcs is done smoothly and the plot is never sacrificed for the sake a singular narrative, which also serves as a introduction to the current status of each character, reintroducing them to the universe.

The villains have an excellent on screen presence, Sigourney Weavers performance is a highlight, who brings her character to life. She delivers one of the best performances in the series and comes of as truly menacing. The tension is felt through the whole series and the stakes are constantly high throughout the series until its conclusion.

‘THE DEFENDERS’ features great fight scenes and stunt choreography, however some scenes have to many cuts to several angles. Despite this,  ‘THE DEFENDERS’ has some of the best action of the year regardless of the occasional lackluster action scene in comparison to some of the highlights of the previous series’
