The latest installment of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ series is set to arrive in cinemas in November of this year following its decisive predecessor ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and its being helmed by long time writer and producer of the series, Simon Kinberg. However this time he is in the directors chair and not only that its Kinberg’s first time directing a film ever.

Very little is known about ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ with not even a teaser trailer having graced the internet, however we aren’t completely deprived of any insight on the film with Entertainment Weekly featuring a first look in a December issue. This gives us some insight on why Kinberg choose to helm the film, which was something he had considered for some time saying

Honestly, the person who most really wanted me to direct was Jen Lawrence, I give her credit or blame depending on how it goes.

So it would appear as if returning star Jennifer Lawrence gave Kinberg the push into the directors chair for better or for worse.

The Entertainment Weekly first look also gave us some other positive insights on the film with Kinberg revealing he had allocated over a year for post-production

I wanted the post time to deliver on the nuance of the visual effects, not just the scale of them. That takes time.

This certainly is a smart play by Kinberg and shows that he went into this project with a good amount of foresight and isn’t visionless. The film is also touching on the source materials galactic outings with the X-Men set to head into space, a far cry from the series “grounded” beginnings of black leather costumes, its a welcome relief Kinberg who himself is a fan of the source material embracing every element.

In the past week DEADLINE has reported that Kinberg is attached to direct a remake of ‘Logan’s Run’ and also confirmed that he is still attached to write and produce a ‘Star Wars’ spin-off film, so maybe Kinberg is on his way to becoming a blockbuster king

These are all positive signs and wile its impossible to say what the end product will be like, its good to know that the film is not only in the hands of someone with years of knowledge in the industry but someone who intimately knows the characters and their world.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theathers November 2nd this year

Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world
