‘THE MAN FROM EARTH’ is a 2007 straight to DVD from director Richard Schenkman. Now while that might not carry much weight, nor realistically should it, this film has become a cult classic in the most unorthodox fashion.
Now, I love this film, but I’m hesitant to talk about, as what I love is how this film completely blew me away. With a budget of only $200,000 and not even having a theatrical release, this film appears to be completely significant. And while its not a game changer in terms of visual effects or spectacle or anything really, yet this film blew me and its entire cult following away with its engaging dialogue, mind twisting story and discerning performances. This can be without a doubt attributed to Jerome Bixby’s (‘THE TWILIGHT ZONE’ and ‘STAR TREK’) script
Now you may be questioning how a film with a limited straight to DVD release could amass such a cult following, but this film wasn’t a success from DVD sales, it was internet piracy that brought this film to the masses. On the matter producer Eric D. Wilkonson to RsLog.net
Our independent movie had next to no advertising budget and very little going for it until somebody ripped one of the DVD screeners and put the movie online for all to download. After that happened, people were watching it and started posting mostly all positive reviews on IMDb, Amazon and other places. Most of the feedback from everyone who has downloaded ‘The Man From Earth’ has been overwhelmingly positive. People like our movie and are talking about it, all thanks to piracy on the net!
Am I upset… surprisingly no. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded this torrrent and watched the film, our awareness level is through the roof. For that I say, “THANK YOU”!
Now I’ve been very cautious not to mention what this film is even about and that’s no mistake as I feel its best to leave that to be experienced by watching the film itself, it’s one of those films where you won’t shut up about it and I hope I’ve convinced you to check it out
