Back in 2014, it was reported by Jeff Sneider at The Wrap that Baz Luhrmann was in talks to direct a biopic regarding the iconic musical artist, Elvis Presley and since then public updates on the film have been scarce at best but now we at DiscussingFilm have some updates regarding the films’ status and when we can expect the film to begin production.

Per our sources, Baz Luhrmann has officially signed on to direct the film and will also take over writing duties of the script from the previous writers, Kelly Marcel and Jeremy Donner. Luhrmann will also produce alongside Catherine Martin, Lloyd Braun and Gail Berman.

Casting director Kristy Carlson will be working on the film and will be looking for at least 2 iterations of Elvis Presley, one between 18-22 and another around the age of 35, both of whom must be able to sing well.

Production is currently slated to begin in March next year.

Warner Bros. has no comment regarding this story.
