Robert Rodriguez Set To Write & Direct ‘We Can Be Heroes’ For Netflix (EXCLUSIVE)

Following his recent directorial work on ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ with producer James Cameron, it seems that Robert Rodriguez is returning to his ‘Spy Kids’ and ‘The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava-Girl’ roots with a upcoming young superhero film for Netflix.

Robert Rodriguez will write and direct ‘We Can Be Heroes’  for Netflix which will be a new IP from my knowledge and will follow a young girl who is the daughter of a retired superhero who discovers that she has powers and puts together a group of other young heroes to help stop an alien invasion.

No cast is currently attached however the film is currently eyeing to begin filming in June so casting is currently in the process for the various roles involved. My take is that, if successful, this film could lead into a new ‘Spy Kids’-esque franchise for Robert Rodriguez to helm but instead with an ‘Avengers’-style children team rather than two sibling spies. Robert Rodriguez is already working with Netflix as a executive producer on the animated ‘Spy Kids: Mission Critical’ series so it makes sense for his next step to be to direct a film for Netflix.

Besides directing ‘Spy Kids’, ‘The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lava-Girl’ and ‘Alita: Battle Angel’, Robert Rodriguez is also known for directing ‘Sin City’, ‘From Dusk To Dawn’, ‘Machete’ as well as many other sequels to the ‘Spy Kids’ franchise.

Netflix are yet to respond for a comment on this story.
