First Character Breakdown For Taika Waititi’s ‘Akira’ Released (EXCLUSIVE)

by Jacob Fisher

We previously exclusively reported that Taika Waititi’s ‘Akira’ would be moving forward to begin filming on August 19th in Los Angeles with Michael Golamco joining the team to co-write the screenplay with Taika.

We have also recently reported that the film has hired its cinematographer, production designer, costume designer among most of the rest of the crew for the film to prep for the August shoot. Since then, they have begun casting and although no one has been cast yet, we have discovered the character breakdown for Shotaro Kaneda in the film. Taika and the casting department are looking to cast an male Asian teenager between 12-20.

Here is the description for the role of Kaneda: “KANEDA should not be too cool or too tough. He’s a scrappy, ragtag kid who’s not worried about anything. Please be your weird, natural authentic self. Have fun with it. Also, feel free to improvise dialogue.”
