Justin Kurzel is set to direct an undisclosed amount of episodes of the live-action TV adaption of ‘Shantaram’ for Apple TV+ and will also executive produce the series. Justin Kurzel is known for directing the recent ‘Macbeth’ film and the feature film adaption of ‘Assassin’s Creed’, both starring Michael Fassbender.

This series will be an adaption of the 2003 novel of the same name from Gregory David Roberts that tells the story of Lin, a man on the run from an Australian prison looking to get lost in the teeming city of Bombay. Cut off from family and friends by distance and fate, he finds a new life in the slums, bars and underworld of India. The novel has been published in 39 languages in 42 territories worldwide and sold six million copies since its release.

Eric Warren Singer will serve as writer and executive producer of the series with David Manson, Nicole Clemens, Steve Golin, Andrea Barron and Richard Sharkey all also set to serve as executive producers on the series.

Production is eyed to begin in September.
