We have learned that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming adaption of James Herbert’s novel ‘Shrine’ in the lead role of Gerry Fenn. The film is currently planned to be distributed by Screen Gems.

Screen Gems is known for their recent films such as ‘Searching’, ‘Brightburn’, ‘Slender Man’, ‘Resident Evil’ and upcoming films such as ‘Monster Hunter’ and ‘Black and Blue’.

Sam Raimi is set to produce the film under his Ghost House Pictures banner which recently was the production company behind ‘Don’t Breathe’ as well as the upcoming ‘Grudge’ reboot from Sony Pictures.

The film is written by Evan Spilotopoulos with the horror feature set to serve as his directorial debut, he has previously written features such as the live-action remake of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, the story for the upcoming ‘Charlie’s Angels’ reboot and has also written the screenplay for the upcoming sequel for David Ayer’s ‘Bright’.

The story of James Herbert’s novel ‘Shrine’ is a disgraced journalist discovers a series of seemingly divine miracles in a small New England town and uses these miracles to resurrect his career. However, these so-called ‘miracles’ may have a much darker source behind them.

Filming is eyeing to begin in February 2020.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan currently plays the infamous Negan on AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’. He currently is represented by United Talent Agency and Viewpoint.
