Robert Eggers Working On New ‘Mythological-Like’ Film

by Ben Rolph

Robert Eggers debuted into the film industry with The Witch, a film that is now regarded as one of the best horror films of this century so far. A surely impressive start and now he has his second feature film making the rounds at film festivals. That being The Lighthouse, a psychological film detailing two lighthouse keepers’ descent into madness. It stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, in which they are poised to be potential Oscar contenders for their incredible work.

Yesterday at the BFI London Film Festival 2019, The Lighthouse screened to the London audience and afterwards there was a post-screening Q&A session. In which, Robert Eggers and Willem Dafoe stepped upon the stage and discussed the madness that is The Lighthouse.

Nearing the end of the post-screening Q&A, Eggers was questioned about potential film projects and the subject matter of what he intends to do. Specifically detailing the mythological aspects of both Egger’s films and if that would be carried into his third feature?

We at DiscussingFilm attended the screening and can confirm Eggers said he is working on a new film, he states that the film will be mythological-like, similar to The Lighthouse and The Witch. He couldn’t say what specific aspect of the mythological he will be tackling next, but he gave us a rough trajectory of what to expect.

Robert Eggers’ third film has no title, release date or information other than what is detailed in this article and his new film, The Lighthouse is set to be released in the UK on January 31st 2020.
