We have learned that Disney/Fox are in early development on spinoffs for the ‘Ice Age’ and ‘Rio’ franchises.

Blue Sky Studios is currently set to be the production company behind these spinoffs. The studio previously developed every film in the ‘Rio’ and ‘Ice Age’ franchise. The production company are also known for ‘The Peanuts Movie’, ‘Robots’, ‘Ferdinand’ and Tom Holland & Will Smith’s ‘Spies In Disguise’ which will release in December of this year.

Per sources, we have been told that the ‘Rio’ spinoff will focus on Nico and Pedro and that the ‘Ice Age’ spinoff will focus on Buck.

Played by Jamie Foxx and will.i.am, Nico, a Yellow Canary, and Pedro, an obese Red-crested Cardinal, were featured in both of the ‘Rio’ films and were well established as best friends. They also were 2 of the main protagonists featured in the films.

Played by Simon Pegg, Buck was a British weasel who lived in the underground Dinosaur World after falling into it when he was younger. He left the underground world to assist The Herd in stopping the mother asteroid from destroying the planet. He has appeared in 3 of the ‘Ice Age’ films including ‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’, ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ and ‘Ice Age: Collision Course’.

It is currently unknown at this time if the actors that voiced these respective roles will be offered to reprise them for these spinoffs given how the spinoffs are in early development.

Disney+ will be home to a number of original animated projects including ‘Lamp Life’, ‘Forky Asks A Question’ and ‘Monsters at Work’ from Pixar, ‘What If…?’ from Marvel Studios, ‘Chip ‘n’ Dale’ from Disney.

A new report also released today from our friends at HN Entertainment in which they state that animated projects are in development for Disney+ for Jimny Cricket, Cheshire Cat, a project connected to ‘Fantastia’ and one potentially focused on the Seven Dwarfs.
