We have learned that B.J. Novak is set to write and direct ‘Vengeance’ for Blumhouse Productions.

Although plot details are currently unknown regarding the film, we can infer that when researching the title ‘Vengeance’ on Google, the definition for the noun is “punishment inflicted or retribution exacted for an injury or wrong.” What does this mean? Nothing much, but the definition of the noun likely suggests something regarding what the film will focus on.

Jason Blum will produce the film under the Blumhouse Productions banner. Blumhouse is highly known for producing hit horror films such as ‘Get Out’ and the recent film revival of ‘Halloween’. the production company has also produced films outside of the horror genre including the recent releases of Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’ and Amy Adams’ ‘Sharp Objects’ drama series for HBO.

Blumhouse currently has multiple projects in the pipeline including Sophia Takal’s ‘Black Christmas’ remake releasing in only a matter of weeks, Jeff Wadlow’s ‘Fantasy Island’ remake, David Gordon Green’s next two entries into the ‘Halloween’ franchise (‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’), Leigh Whannell’s ‘The Invisible Man’ remake, Zoe Lister-Jones’ ‘The Craft’ remake, Christopher Landon’s ‘Freaky Friday the 13th’ among many other projects. With a wide range of remakes and original properties currently in development in Blumhouse’s content library, it is currently safe to say that the ever-growing production company is flourishing in the current film landscape.

B.J. Novak is most famously known for his work on NBC’s sitcom ‘The Office’ where not only did he star as Ryan Howard in the series but he also worked on the behind-the-scenes as a co-executive producer for 65 episodes, an executive producer for 34 episodes, a supervising producer for 33 episodes, a co-producer for 22 episodes, a writer for 15 episodes, an associate producer for 5 episodes and as a director for 5 episodes.

In addition to his extensive credits on ‘The Office’, his on-screen credits include appearances in films such as ‘The Founder’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’. As for his other off-screen credits, Novak is currently in the midst of work on his upcoming FX series ‘Platform’ which he will write, direct and executive produce. ‘Platform’ will be an anthological series that “uses the boldest issues of our times as a jumping-off point to tell singular, character-driven stories about the world we live in today.” Jon Bernthal will star in a undisclosed role in the series.

‘Vengeance’ is currently eyeing to begin filming in February with locations being scouted such as New Mexico.

There is no word as of now to which studio will gain the distribution rights for B.J. Novak’s feature film directorial debut.
