May 2022 is yet another month for Star Wars fans on Disney+. In honor of this year’s May the 4th landing on an actual Wednesday, the main day of the week for new Disney+ releases, subscribers were treated to Disney Gallery: The Book of Boba Fett – the latest behind-the-scenes deep dive on the stories Star Wars is exploring on streaming. It doesn’t end there for the month, obviously, as Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently all any fan can talk about. Audiences will finally witness the most mysterious chapter in the great Kenobi’s life, one that will surprisingly reunite lead Ewan McGregor with his fellow prequel co-star, Darth Vader himself, Hayden Christensen. It’s going to be quite the sentimental time for Star Wars fans everywhere that’s for sure.

Before Obi-Wan returns, all eyes will be on Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. The Disney+ exclusive film brings back the iconic animated duo to solve a meta mystery fit only for the Rescue Rangers’ crime-solving. Walking in the footsteps of classic live-action/animated hybrid comedies like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Lonely Island members Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg attempt to put their stamp on the Disney canon with the help of fellow comic John Mulaney. This unlikely collaboration makes for one of the more interesting revamps Disney has tried recently, and its streaming exclusivity makes it an ideal watch with a group of friends or with the whole family. Avid viewers who already checked out the Moon Knight finale and the other Disney+ original film of the month, Sneakerella, will absolutely want to direct their attention to Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers next.

Read more on our monthly recs and see the full list of everything still coming to Disney+ in May 2022 below. You can also find this month’s newest additions and departures from Netflix and HBO Max right here on DiscussingFilm.

Our Recs:

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers

The Rescue Rangers are back, but not in the way audiences would have guessed. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers is the next Disney+ original film based on a household animated title, with Pinocchio still coming later this year. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, however, is already on its way to setting itself apart from previous exclusives. This live-action/animated hybrid tackles meta humor in a way that could have only come from the Lonely Island crew. Set 30 years after the classic cartoon ended production, the titular duo must reunite to find out why one of their old cast members has gone missing. Their investigation leads them down a secret Hollywood conspiracy not so different from Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Looney Tunes: Back In Action. John Mulaney and Andy Samberg voice Chip and Dale respectively.

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers hits Disney+ May 20, 2022!

Obi-Wan Kenobi

After years and years of whispers and rumors, Ewan McGregor is getting another outing as Obi-Wan Kenobi – one that many would agree he always deserved. The series follows the titular Jedi while on his exile on Tatooine, overseeing Luke Skywalker in his youth and always being a call away from Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru should they need his protection. That time has finally come, but in an unexpected series of events, Kenobi must travel off-world to escape the wrath of the Jedi-hunting Inquisitors. His journey will put him face to face once more with Darth Vader himself, reprised by Hayden Christensen, for what’s been described as the “rematch of the century.” Fans will have no choice but to tune in order to find out how this rematch fits within the established canon, or if it retcons it at all.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere on Disney+ May 27, 2022!

We Feed People

This month’s Nat Geo Disney+ documentary comes from famed filmmaker Ron Howard. His last documentary, Rebuilding Paradise, covered California’s 2018 wildfires which were reported to be the deadliest ever for the state. Howard is continuing to put a spotlight on disaster relief with We Feed People. Viewers will follow chef José Andrés and his nonprofit World Central Kitchen – a group of everyday people who answer the call of feeding those in need across the world when disaster strikes. Folks looking to get the most out of their Disney+ subscription shouldn’t overlook this notable documentary along with the rest of Nat Geo’s exclusive offerings.

We Feed People debuts on Disney+ May 27, 2022!
