Sony Pictures kicked off things last night with a stellar slate, and studios like Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, and Amazon MGM will still to come later in the week. The official convention of Cinema United — previously known as the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) — CinemaCon has become one of the top news events for eager moviegoers. The annual event sees theater owners, distributors, exhibitors, industry professionals, journalists, and more unite at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to celebrate the communal theatrical experience and discuss what’s coming in the future.
Lionsgate Pictures has a lot in store for the next few years. While we have no confirmation on what movies will be shown or teased, moviegoers can at least expect new updates on the John Wick spin-off movie Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Strangers: Chapter Two, Now You See Me 3, and Antone Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic. Press and CinemaCon 2025 attendees might also get updates on Lionsgate’s more far-out projects, such as their slate for 2026 and beyond. This list includes The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and any other John Wick spin-off films.
CinemaCon is not open to the public, which means no releases of exclusive footage and first-look reveals from the highly anticipated event. But look no further, as we at DiscussingFilm will be listing below every major news update and exclusive footage description LIVE from Lionsgate’s CinemaCon 2025 studio presentation. Stay tuned as we continue to cover this year’s CinemaCon throughout the week, with presentations from Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, Amazon MGM Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and Paramount Pictures still to come.

Ballerina

Directed by Len Wiseman.
Screenplay by Shay Hatten.
Based on characters by Derek Kolstad.
Produced by Chad Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, & Erica Lee.
Main Cast: Ana de Armas, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Keanu Reeves, Gabriel Byrne, Anjelica Huston, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, & David Castañeda.
Exclusive Footage Description: As expected for a franchise as esteemed as John Wick, the exclusive footage shown at CinemaCon 2025 was very promising. The footage starts off like a traditional trailer, with flashes of the backstory of Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) in the Ruska Roma crime syndicate, with teases of her being on the precipice of a point of no return in the assassin world, as reiterated by an appearance from John Wick (Keanu Reeves) himself. Director Len Wiseman is centering the world in this footage, with returning appearances from Ian McShane, Angelica Huston, and the late great Lance Reddick.
The footage then transitions into a full scene from the movie. Eve is at a lodge when the patrons start clearing out. A threatening man in a suit walks in, and he and Eve start to fight. The action absolutely holds a candle to what’s been seen in the franchise before, with the gag-centric tone of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum as Eve locks her legs around her assailant’s neck, only for him to keep slamming her down on the table. A huge reaction from the audience when Eve snaps the man’s arm and then shoots her in the head.
That’s not where the footage ends. A female worker at the lodge starts to fight Eve. It’s brutal, scrappy, and punctuated by a great bit where the two are slamming plates on top of each other’s head. The footage ends with more of a traditional trailer, where it’s made clear that John Wick will be somewhat of an antagonist for the film, hired to take down Eve, yet still offering her the choice to exit the world of assassins. This footage gives everything audiences want and more, promising more of a proper John Wick movie than expected.
John Wick: Chapter 5
Directed by Chad Stahelski.
Produced by Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves, Basil Iwanyk, & Erica Lee.
New Details: Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson also officially announced John Wick: Chapter 5, the next sequel to the franchise and its main storyline. Chad Stahleski is set to direct with Keanu Reeves, who, of course, will return as the film’s star and producer. Though the announcement of this film might surprise fans of the last installment, Fogelson reassures that the creatives behind Wick’s story wouldn’t have returned to this world without “something truly phenomenal and fresh to say.”
Animated John Wick Movie
Directed by Shannon Tindle.
Screenplay by Vanessa Taylor.
Based on characters by Derek Kolstad.
Produced by Chad Stahelski, Keanu Reeves, Basil Iwanyk, & Erica Lee.
New Details: Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson took the stage at CinemaCon 2025 to announce that the John Wick universe will enter a brand-new visual medium in an animated anime-style prequel to the blockbuster franchise. Set before the first movie, it will follow John Wick (Keanu Reeves is set to return to voice the iconic action hero) on his quest to complete “The Impossible Task,” to eliminate all of his rival assassins in one night in order to free himself from the grasp of the High Table and start a new life with his love, Helen.
Shannon Tindle, the co-writer and director of Ultraman: Rising, has been attached to direct and Vanessa Taylor of The Shape of Water fame will write the screenplay. Anime is already a direct influence on John Wick’s mysterious, neon-soaked world, so it surely will be a perfect match for the medium of animation and hopefully show fans a highly anticipated part of the universe’s rich lore.
Caine
Directed by Donnie Yen.
Screenplay by Mattson Tomlin.
Based on characters by Derek Kolstad.
Produced by Chad Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, & Erica Lee.
New Details: In a new spin-off film announced at Cinemacon, legendary martial arts veteran and Hong Kong movie star Donnie Yen will reprise his role as Caine, the assassin-adversary introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4. With Caine, Yen is excitingly going to step behind the camera and serve as the film’s director and executive producer. The film was described to be a bridge between the franchise’s sleek style and the classic Hong Kong kung-fu flicks that put Yen on the map.
While the film is too early in development for explicit plot details, Adam Fogelson shared that Caine will take place after the events of Chapter 4 and will follow Caine in the aftermath of being freed from his duties to the High Table. After Ballerina, it will be the second live-action spin-off of the John Wick franchise.
Now You See Me: Now You Don’t
Release Date: November 14, 2025.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer.
Screenplay by Eric Warren Singer, Seth Grahame-Smith, & Michael Lesslie.
Based on characters by Boaz Yakin & Edward Ricourt.
Main Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Ariana Greenblatt, Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith, & Rosamund Pike.
Exclusive Footage Description: The long awaited first trailer for the third Now You See Me installment, entitled Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, debuted at the CinemaCon Lionsgate presentation. The trailer opens with a group of magicians, played by Dominic Sessa, Justice Smith, and Ariana Greenblatt, who are essentially copycats of “The Four Horsemen.” That is, until Jesse Eisenberg’s character comes in and recruits them to help steal a precious diamond to take down a tycoon played by Rosamund Pike.
The trailer showcases the same usual frenetic, preposterous magic shenanigans and banter between Eisenberg and the new crew. The trailer kicks up another notch when, during the heist, Jesse runs into his old crew, including Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Woody Harrelson, and Morgan Freeman. There’s an abrasive tension between them, but soon enough, they’re running through the same hijinks audiences know and love. It’s hard to single out or make sense of the quick images that flash by out of context, but the energy is there as the old and new crew come together to take down Rosamund Pike’s villain.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Release Date: November 20, 2026.
Directed by Francis Lawrence.
Screenplay by Billy Ray.
Based on The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins.
Main Cast: TBA.
New Details: New Details: Cinemacon 2025 attendees were shown an animated logo for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Based on the recently-released bestseller by Suzanne Collins, Sunrise on the Reaping will tell the story of Katniss’s mentor and District 12 champion Haymitch Abernathy and his participation in the fiftieth Hunger Games.
Franchise regular Francis Lawrence is returning to direct the film, and he called it a “return to form” that goes back to what made the franchise so popular with the style of the games themselves. The Oscar-nominated Billy Ray, writer of the first adaptation of The Hunger Games (2011) and Captain Phillips (2013), is returning to pen the script. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is set to be released on November 20, 2026.
The Long Walk
Release Date: September 12, 2025.
Directed by Francis Lawrence.
Screenplay by J.T. Mollner.
Based on The Long Walk by Stephen King.
Produced by Francis Lawrence, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, & Cameron MacConomy.
Main Cast: Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, Judy Geer, & Mark Hamill.
Exclusive Footage Description: Based on the very first story written by Stephen King, the first trailer of The Long Walk debuted at CinemaCon 2025. The trailer dives directly into the film’s unique premise; we are shown a group of boys surrounded by military tanks and armed soldiers walking down a road. At first, there is an adventurous coming-of-age tone as we are introduced to the ensemble cast, notably a friendship between David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman.
The trailer takes a dark twist as a young boy collapses in exhaustion and is shot by a soldier, to the horror of his friends. Mark Hamill’s voiceover tells the audience about the test of stamina at the center of the film: a 3 mph long walk challenge with a large monetary prize and no finish line, just until there is only one boy left. The stakes rise higher and higher as the boys trek through flames and their numbers dwindle smaller and smaller. The Long Walk trailer hits all the proper notes of a Stephen King adaptation — a balance between the bleak horror of humanity’s dark side and the emotional bond between brothers in conflict.
Good Fortune
Exclusive Footage Description: CinemaCon 2025 attendees were treated to the first trailer for Aziz Ansari’s feature directorial debut, Good Fortune. The trailer starts off with Aziz as a down-on-his-luck assistant to a tech bro played by Seth Rogen. That is, until the angel Gabriel comes into his life played by Keanu Reeves. Keanu attempts to show Aziz that trading lives won’t solve all his problems, but in a twist, it actually does. Seth Rogen is now living the life that Aziz used to have, with an indication that he and Aziz are aware of the situation and go through with it as a sort of challenge.
There’s plenty of great situational comedy going on. The best part of the footage is easily Keanu Reeves’ dry comedic performance. As the trailer clarifies, as a guardian angel, he mostly just stops people from dying while texting and driving. He has a great line read where Aziz questions why he’s smoking now, and he replies, “It’s all I have!”. Judging by the reaction from the CinemaCon crowd, Good Fortune has all the makings of a bonafide crowd-pleaser, and increasing the presence of Keanu Reeves at the convention.
Power Ballad
Exclusive Footage Description: Lionsgate debuted the first trailer for Power Ballad, directed by John Carney (Sing Street). It opens with Paul Rudd playing a has-been rock star who’s balancing his poor career with being a father in Dublin, Ireland. One day at a wedding, he meets a boyband-breakout idol played by Nick Jonas, and a spark forms when they duet together. In an attempt to break out of his juvenile pop star image, Nick Jonas invites Paul to collaborate at his New York home, and Paul develops a new song during their jam session that he later plays to his daughter. This is immediately followed by Nick Jonas singing a new ballad to his girlfriend, played by Havana Rose.
The trailer takes a left turn as it turns out that Nick’s next big hit is a direct rip off of Paul Rudd’s unreleased song — turning these two artists from different generations against each other in a legal battle. Jack Reynor plays Nick’s record label manager, determined to squash Paul Rudd’s case and rebrand Nick into a powerhouse solo artist.
