CinemaCon 2026 is finally here, and this year’s event is looking to be a special one. Sony Pictures is kicking off the conference with its slate presentation, to be followed by Warner Bros., Universal, Amazon MGM, Paramount, and Disney later in the week. The official convention of Cinema United, formerly known as the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), CinemaCon has become one of the year’s top news events for eager moviegoers. The annual event brings together over 6,000 theater owners, distributors, exhibitors, industry professionals, and journalists from 60+ countries at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to celebrate the communal theatrical experience and discuss what’s to come.

Up first at CinemaCon 2026 is Sony Pictures, with a studio presentation scheduled to last two hours. While we have no confirmation of which films will be shown or teased, fans can at least expect updates on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next Jumanji sequel, Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning, and Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil movie. Press and CinemaCon attendees might also get the latest news on Sony’s in-development slate for 2027 and beyond, including the long-awaited animated sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Sam Mendes’ four Beatles biopics, and the highly anticipated live-action The Legend of Zelda film adaptation.

CinemaCon is not open to the public, which means there are no online releases of exclusive footage or first-look reveals from the event. But look no further, as we at DiscussingFilm will be listing below every major news update and exclusive footage description LIVE from Sony’s CinemaCon 2026 studio presentation. Stay tuned as we continue to cover this year’s CinemaCon throughout the week, with presentations from Warner Bros., Amazon MGM Studios, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and Walt Disney Studios still to come.

Live Sony Updates From CinemaCon 2026

  • Takashi Yamazaki’s Grand Gear, produced by J.J. Abrams, will hit theaters on February 21, 2028.
  • Animated Bloodborne film adaptation, which will be rated R.
  • Justin Lin’s live-action Helldivers film will hit theaters on November 10, 2027.
  • Sony Pictures Animation’s Buds, a new original film about talking plants that finally decide to break the rules of the plant kingdom and talk to humans in an effort to help the environment, will hit theaters in December 2027.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Release Date: July 31, 2026.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
Based on characters from Marvel Comics.
Screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Main Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando & Mark Ruffalo.

Exclusive Footage Description: While he wasn’t present in person, a Tom Holland hologram introduced an extended scene from the much-anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The sequence sees Holland’s Peter Parker at a bodega when he spots his old friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), who no longer remembers him. Peter follows him to an apartment party, where he realizes Ned has created a “Spider-Tracker” app to figure out who Spider-Man is. When MJ (Zendaya) walks in, Peter stumbles and reintroduces himself as “Maynard”. As the three walk into the kitchen, MJ’s boyfriend (Eman Esfandi) kisses her as a heartbroken Peter looks on.

The scene is followed by an extended sizzle reel that showcases the movie’s dynamic, slow-motion-heavy action, including a brief glimpse at Peter’s eyes turning black, indicating the rumored transformation into Man-Spider. Fans who want a lonelier, more angsty Spider-Man seem to be in for a treat here, with Tame Impala’s “Loser” really selling the mood of the piece. The movie looks to be having its cake and eating it too, with expansive, larger-than-life action married with intimate character work. Sony is obviously very confident in the film, and given what they showed CinemaCon attendees, they have every right to be.

Insidious: Out of the Further

Based on the Insidious Franchise.

INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER- Official Trailer (4K)

Resident Evil

Release Date: September 18, 2026.
Directed by Zach Cregger.
Screenplay by Zach Cregger & Shay Hatten.
Based on the video game series from Capcom.
Main Cast: Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, & Kali Reis.

Exclusive Footage Description: Zach Cregger took the stage at CinemaCon 2026 to introduce his take on the Resident Evil franchise, sharing that he was inspired by the game mechanics and that the film would stay true to the franchise’s tone as much as possible. Cregger then introduced an exclusive teaser for the film, which opens with a lone man (Austin Abrams) walking into an abandoned house on a winter night. He then uses the house’s phone to leave a voicemail for his girlfriend, which is played over the rest of the teaser. Abrams’ character explains that he has been on the run, and we are treated to images of him investigating dark houses, sewers, and running down a vacant street.

The teaser holds back on showing too much horror imagery, but there is a bloated naked creature that watches Abrams in the sewers, as well as hands that emerge from the door of a dark house. The title card also uses the withered font from the latest Resident Evil titles. Cregger adds that the film will not have any of the fancy plot-structure shifts that his films are known for, focusing instead on a linear adventure — but the footage proves that Cregger’s claustrophobic and thrilling atmosphere is certainly here.

The Social Reckoning

Release Date: October 9, 2026.
Directed by Aaron Sorkin.
Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin.
Based on the novel The Facebook Files by Jeff Horwitz.
Main Cast: Mikey Madison, Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen, & Betty Gilpin.

Exclusive Footage Description: Aaron Sorkin took the stage at Cinemacon 2026 to introduce a first look teaser from his follow-up and companion film to Fincher’s influential The Social Network. The footage opens on Mikey Madison as Facebook engineer Frances Haugen and Jeremy Allen White as reporter Jeff Horwitz, discussing a potential story exposing the Facebook company’s secrets. The trailer then cuts to the first look at CEO Mark Zuckerberg, transformatively played by Jeremy Strong in convincing makeup, defending his role in the company and dubbing himself a leader of free speech.

The trailer boasts Sorkin’s sharp dialogue, hearings, scandals, and an examination of Zuckerberg’s impact on the changing modern world since the original film.

Klara and the Sun

Directed by Taika Waititi.
Screenplay by Taika Waititi & Dahvi Waller.
Based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Main Cast: Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Mia Tharia, Simon Baker, Natasha Lyonne, Steve Buscemi, Harry Greenwood, & Aran Murphy.

Exclusive Footage Description: Taika Waititi’s enigmatic novel adaptation is no longer much of a mystery, as Sony unveiled the first full trailer for Klara and the Sun. The trailer opens with Jenna Ortega as a sentient android designed as a companion for children. An eccentric character played by Natasha Lyonne tells Klara and the other robot companions that they’ll all hopefully find their perfect families. As it seems, that’s exactly what happens, with a little girl taking a shine to Klara, although her mother, played by Amy Adams, seems to take otherwise.

The trailer goes through a quick succession of scenes, showcasing a wide variety of environments, such as sweeping fields of wheat, a Blade Runner-like cyberpunk city, and a candy-colored shopfront. Those who had felt disappointed by Watiti’s previous couple of features, Next Goal Wins and Thor: Love & Thunder, can breathe easy, as his latest looks like his most ambitious, colorful, and emotional project yet, with the director and the material seeming like a perfect fit. At the very least, its confidence is infectious.

Jumanji: Open World

Release Date: December 25, 2026.
Directed by Jake Kasdan.
Screenplay by Jake Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg.
Based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg.
Main Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff, Burn Gorman, & Danny DeVito.

Exclusive Footage Description: Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart closed off the Sony Pictures panel at CinemaCon 2026 to show off a first exclusive look at Jumanji: Open World. The trailer first opens on footage from the first entry in the Jumanji reboot, then reorients us with our cast of characters as their avatars on yet another adventure inside the Jumanji game. Instead of a jungle, we watch the crew try to survive in a desert. We then see the characters driving away from a herd of ostriches as they quickly approach a canyon.

Back in the real world, we see a couple mess with the Jumanji game console, accidentally unleashing the game’s characters and enemies into the real world. The main group of friends from the franchise finds their in-game avatars, with Dwayne Johnson’s Dr. Bravestone stuck in Spanish mode. For the first time, the entire Jumanji cast (the young humans and the game avatars) is teaming up in the real world. Open World will take place both in the real world during Christmas time and inside the Jumanji video game. As the closer to the Jumanji reboot trilogy, this film promises to hold back nothing. Johnson also confirmed another tribute to Robin Williams in the same vein as the other movies.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Release Date: June 18, 2027.
Directed by Bob Persichetti & Justin K. Thompson.
Screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller & David Callaham.
Based on characters from Marvel Comics.
Main Cast: Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Schwartzman, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, Nicolas Cage & Jake Johnson.

Exclusive Footage Description: Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Bob Persichetti, and Justin K. Thompson took the stage to introduce footage from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which, like Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is said to be the most emotional of the series.

The footage picks up right after the end of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), confronted by his alternate self, who is The Prowler. Miles and Miles share some banter, namely, Prowler Miles giving our protagonist Miles grief for his pronunciation of his last name. As Miles tries to explain to his counterpart canon events and his situation, Prowler Miles and the alternate Aaron Davis (Mahershala Ali) don’t seem too impressed. Miles then activates his lightning powers to break free.

The footage launches into an explosive sizzle reel. An enticing image shows Aaron and Miles’ father in the past committing criminal activities in a letterboxed, retro-look aesthetic, indicating the movie will explore their- or their alternate selves’-history together. Other striking images include Gwen Stacy crossing an interdimensional bridge, a series of various Spider-Men going through a neon cityscape, Spider-Man 2099 standing in front of several giant portals opening up, and an utterly terrifying shot of a much more sinister The Spot saying “I just wanted to be taken seriously” as he drains the life out of everything around him.

One thing of particular note about this footage is that it’s presented in a 1:43:1 aspect ratio, which confirms that this film is specifically formatted for premium large-format theaters. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’s footage suggests a finale of epic proportions, with so many varied animation styles that it makes one’s head spin, and a story that will tackle a multitude of threads. The footage, more than anything, affirms that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be well worth the long wait between films.
