We at Discussing Film learned at a special ‘Shaun of the Dead’ Q&A Screening with Edgar Wright that Edgar Wright was offered to direct the upcoming remake of An American Werewolf in London. Wright clarified that he believes An American Werewolf in London is a “desert island movie” and he wouldn’t want to see it be remade and therefore turned down the project.
The remake of John Landis’ 1981 horror-comedy classic will be written by Max Landis as reported back in 2016 by Deadline. Max Landis’ latest film was Netflix’s Bright which was met with negative reviews.
John Landis’ 1981 original follows David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) backpacking through Britain when a large wolf attacks them. One survives, one dies and from there on the infamous transformation scene was born.
As of now, no cast has been listed, however David Alpert (‘American Ultra’), Todd Garner (‘Radio’), Matt Smith (‘Maleficent’), Robert Kirkman (‘Fear the Walking Dead’) and Andrew Trapani (‘Winchester’) are all listed as producers and John Landis an executive producer. Additionally, Max Landis is now set to direct.
The film is yet to begin production and no release date has been announced.
