Arguably the most important film event of the summer, the 74th Cannes Film Festival returns after a year long hiatus and numerous delays with a newfound reputation as a trailblazer. With many festivals choosing to launch as an in-person/virtual hybrid or with some even going fully virtual, Cannes has held strong as an event committed to the theatrical experience no matter what obstacles arise. With the highly anticipated announcement of the lineup finally here, read on to see which films have been officially selected for the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

Cannes director Thierry Frémaux, during the live announcement of 2021’s official selection, stated “cinema is not dead” and that the reopening of theaters has been the best thing to happen recently. Frémaux then went on to say that the 2021 Cannes Film Festival is the next best thing to happen to the world of cinema, this year. More films are sure to be added, with the festival director himself teasing that a “planetary blockbuster” addition is still on the way. Stay tuned here on DiscussingFilm as we cover more of Cannes 2021!
