Netflix will this week be live-streaming their inaugural Geeked Week, bringing news and first looks at various projects just around the corner. The five-day event follows the smash success of DC’s Fandome and will be running from June 7 to June 11. We’ll be covering its entirety live, both on Twitter and with daily recaps right here on DiscussingFilm!

Wednesday

Each day of Netflix’s Geeked Week has a different theme, with Wednesday’s being Fantasy and Young Adult based content. Following Tuesdays day of Comics which saw new information on Cowboy Bebop, The Sandman, and Umbrella Academy season 3, another big day of announcements is expected. With Stranger Things news undoubtedly a core part of the Young Adult portion of the day, Geeked Week day 3 looks set to be unmissable.

The Fear Street Trilogy

Netflix released an exclusive first-look trailer for The Fear Street trilogy, an upcoming set of teen Horror films based on R.L. Stine’s series of books. Starring Kiana Madeira and Olivia Welch, Netflix announced that ‘Part 1: 1994’ is releasing on July 2, with the sequels ‘Part 2: 1978’ and ‘Part 3: 1666’ releasing July 9 and 16 respectively.

Seeming like a dark combination of Stranger Things and Stephen King’s IT in tone, the terrifying trailer promises another big draw-in for Netflix. Combining horror and teen drama, the show will also feature two Lesbian characters as the main leads played by Madeira and Welch. Both characters are from different time periods, one being from the 1990s and the other from the 1600s, hinting at a more supernatural meaning to the names of each film than initially hinted at in the trailer.

Gunpowder Milkshake

Moving from one set of strong female protagonists to another, Geeked Week released a new clip from the upcoming film Gunpowder Milkshake. Starring Karen Gillan as a John Wick-style assassin, and featuring similarly fascinating worldbuilding in the society of killers created, this original will surely grow interest on everyone’s radars.

Stranger Things

The big reveals of the day were all Stranger Things related, arguably Netflix’s largest original IP. The Duffer Brothers announced four new cast members alongside small character descriptions hinting towards the direction of the fourth season.

Vickie is a character brand new to this season, a band nerd and potential romantic interest for one of the protagonists. As well as this, they announced Patrick (Myles Truitt), a local Basketball star, Ms. Kelly (Regina Ting Chen), a school guidance counselor, and Chrissy (Grace Van Dien), the popular cheerleader of the school. With plot details being kept fairly under wraps, these casting announcements hint towards the wider population of Hawkins being further explored in the upcoming season.

The next Stranger Things news of the day, Netflix also announced that Maya Hawke’s character introduced in season 3, Robin, is set to star in her own prequel-podcast series. With Robin Buckley also confirmed to return in season 4, this prequel is conceptually intriguing, as so far we have not been shown any hints that she was involved in Hawkins’ supernatural funny-business.

Here’s everything you missed from Day 2 of Netflix Geeked Week

Stay tuned for more reveals tomorrow!
