Another month means another jam-packed round of arrivals for Disney+ and Hulu. As two of the biggest streamers — now semi-united for Disney bundle subscribers who get access to both streaming platforms — Disney+ and Hulu are giving consumers all the reason to stay inside to beat the summer heat throughout July 2024. This month, Hulu definitely takes the lion’s share of new arrivals between the two streaming giants. However, Disney+ subscribers still have some exciting things coming their way with Shark Week and the latest installment of the fan-favorite Descendants franchise. Additionally, it should be noted that the hit Disney+ Original Series The Acolyte will be ending its first season in July 2024, bringing in waves of viewers eager to find out what more secrets this latest Star Wars show has in store.
To start with Disney+’s July 2024 offerings, Descendants: The Rise of Red is a new spin-off from the main Descendants trilogy. The three prior Descendants films followed the children of Disney villains forging their own paths. This latest Disney+ movie, Descendants: The Rise of Red, follows Princess Red (Kylie Cantrall), the daughter of Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), getting invited to Auradon Prep, where descendants of Disney’s heroes and villains go to learn. China Ann McClain returns from the previous two films as Uma, the daughter of The Little Mermaid‘s Ursula, who’s now the headmistress of Auradon. Meanwhile, Malia Baker joins the cast as the daughter of Cinderella, who Red must begrudgingly team up with to save Auradon from the Queen of Hearts’ schemes. Sing-along versions of the prior three Descendants movies will arrive on Disney+ along with this new spin-off on July 10, 2024.
In honor of Discovery’s Shark Week, Disney+ and Hulu just added a variety of shark-themed content on July 1, 2024. These new additions, provided by National Geographic, include such documentary fare as Attack of the Red Sea Sharks, Baby Sharks in the City, Sharks Gone Viral, Supersized Sharks, and a whole season of Shark Attack 360. For Disney+/Hulu subscribers who enjoy a little celebrity pizazz with their Shark Week, then there’s also Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast, featuring the latest Captain America, Anthony Mackie, as well as Shark vs. Ross Edgley, starring the professional swimmer of the same name. Another notable addition to Disney+ in July 2024 is the 1994 family sports classic Angels in the Outfield, starring the likes of Danny Glover, Christopher Lloyd, and a very young Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Angels in the Outfield will be available to stream on Disney+ starting on July 15, 2024.
Regarding Hulu Originals, the streaming service is stacked up in July 2024. The Hulu Original docuseries Mastermind: To Think Like A Killer arrives on July 11, 2024. The Hulu series tells the incredible true story of professor and psychiatric nurse Dr. Ann Burgess, whose work was essential in stopping and understanding serial killers at the level of Ted Bundy, Ed Kemper, and more. Sister duo Elle and Dakota Fanning produce Mastermind: To Think Like A Killer, which should help fill the gap for fans of Netflix’s canceled Mindhunter series since that streaming show covered a similar historical timeframe.
Hulu’s Hit-Monkey, based on the Marvel character of the same name, is getting a second season due to release on July 15, 2024. Although not as prolific as the characters featured in the Disney+ Marvel shows, this animated series has carved out its own quirky identity. Hit-Monkey Season 2 sees the titular Japanese macaque go from the Tokyo underworld to the streets of New York City. While Hit-Monkey works as a hitman in the Big Apple, his partner in crime, the spirit of dead assassin Bryce Fowler (Jason Sudeikis), gets a second chance at life. Returning characters like police officer Haruka (Ally Maki) and the well-connected Akiko (Olivia Munn) will be joined by Cristin Milioti (Made for Love) as Bryce’s daughter this season. Milioti’s addition to this Hulu Original Series will allow viewers to witness her acting chops before she appears in The Penguin on Max later this year.
Rounding off the original programming on Hulu and Disney+ is Futurama Season 12, premiering on July 29, 2024. The treasured animated series has now been revived from the dead not once or twice but three times. After the roaring success of Season 11, the Hulu show received an order for two additional seasons. As this is the first of those two new seasons, audiences can expect a variety of out-of-this-world adventures starring their favorite characters, like Phillip J. Fry (Billy West), Bender (John DiMaggio), and Leela (Katey Sagal). The Matt Groening animated series seems to have a bright future (pun intended) ahead of it, as fans are sure to tune in for its twelfth season on Hulu.
Finally, there’s no shortage of beloved and classic movies on Hulu in July 2024. Hulu and Disney bundle subscribers can dive into Alien: Covenant, Aliens, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, Predators (2010), and The Predator — perfect timing for those getting ready to see the upcoming sequel Alien: Romulus in theaters this August. For the kids, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will provide all the fun and laughter they can ask for. Again, there’s no better way to prepare for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 than by rewatching the previous film. James Mangold’s Ford v. Ferrari, a fantastic “dad movie,” just arrived on the streamer this month as well. Last but not least, the Will Ferrell hits Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers, along with the underrated Kristen Wiig comedy Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, are now streaming on Hulu, too.
