Prime Video is the cream of the crop as far as streaming services go. The bonafide streaming giant may not have much in the theme of Halloween for October 2024, but Prime Video subscribers are being provided with tons of original content nonetheless. Between the return of two fan-favorite original Amazon series, several new original Amazon movie premieres, and a litany of repertory content to enjoy, there’s never been a better time to subscribe. Without further ado, here’s everything coming to Prime Video and its free ad-supported Freevee service in October 2024.
The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 is the first major show to have returned this month. Based on the first campaign of a popular Dungeons & Dragons podcast, Critical Role, the animated Prime Video original series has been a surprise hit for the service due to the rabid fanbase and fun chaos that comes with a good D&D campaign. Featuring the voice talents of The Last of Us games’ Ellie and Abby, Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey, respectively, The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 is bound to give fans more of what they love. There is still plenty of story material to cover from the original Critical Role campaign, meaning that The Legend of Vox Machina could continue to be a flagship series for the Prime Video streaming service in the future.
Coming right in time for the Halloween season, the Prime Video original film House of Spoils has just been added to the streamer in October 2024. A Blumhouse Television production, the streaming movie follows a chef’s journey to open her own restaurant in the face of a supernatural threat in the form of the previous owner of the property’s spirit. Starring Oscar-winner Arianna DeBose (West Side Story), House of Spoils continues the recent trend of combining food, horror, and social satire — albeit with a more explicitly spooky element in the form of a ghost this time around. If House of Spoils is junk food or a more hearty Halloween snack, it’s bound to be a tasty seasonal Halloween treat regardless.
Another Amazon film coming to Prime Video in October 2024 is the comedy Brothers. Strangely from a script by indie icon Macon Blair, Brothers stars Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage as two ex-con brothers who plan to pull off an epic heist. It’s right in the wheelhouse of the kind of broad, usually raunchy, comedies that are so popular among Prime Video subscribers. The streamer receives the film on October 17, 2024, right after Amazon MGM Studios gives the movie a limited theatrical release on October 10. The Prime Video streaming platform will be a lovely home for Brothers, with it being next to the likes of Ricky Stanicky and Jackpot.
The next Amazon movie to expect from Prime Video in October 2024 is Canary Black. Coming from Pierre Morrel, director of Taken, Canary Black has a somewhat familiar premise. A CIA agent, played by Kate Beckinsdale, is trying to get her husband back from terrorists who are attempting to barter for inside secrets. Besides comedies, Prime Video is additionally known as a vital hub for action films that are increasingly losing space in movie theaters. Kate Beckinsdale has been on the action wave since the now-classic Underworld films, so the streaming film isn’t anything to shake a stick at when it premieres on October 24, 2024.
Back to the streaming shows on display for Prime Video subscribers in October 2024, Citadel: Diana is not to be missed. The original Citadel series, starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra, was known for being one of the most expensive shows to release at the time. Despite the backing by the Russo Brothers as producers, it failed to stay much in the public consciousness. However, Amazon is betting on the franchise in a big way, with not only Citadel Season 2 coming down the pipeline but also a spin-off series, Citadel: Diana, premiering on October 10, 2024. This Italian spy caper, starring Matilda De Angelis as the titular Diana, could be the shot in the arm the Citadel IP needs.
Two more Amazon shows to keep an eye out for in October 2024 are Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity? and The Devil’s Hour. The former, arriving on October 16, 2024, is a new game show hosted by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce that pits contestants against celebrities in elementary school-grade questions in a format similar to Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? Meanwhile, The Devil’s Hour returns for its second season. Executive produced by Doctor Who’s Steven Moffat. The Devil’s Hour Season 2 is set to take the strange relationship between insomniac Lucy Chambers (Jessica Raine) and serial killer Gideon Shepherd (Peter Capaldi) to new dangerous places. Those looking to get their horror, thriller, or crime fix can tune into this twisted streaming series on October 18, 2024.
Prime Video is once again growing its impressive streaming library to make October 2024 as worth it as possible for subscribers. First up is the Austin Butler-starring Elvis, which will help audiences prepare for director Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Joan of Arc film. Speaking of preparation, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator has joined Prime Video this month as well, ahead of Gladiator 2 hitting theaters this November. An entire collection of James Bond 007 films has just been added this month, too! Discover more on our monthly recs below, then check out the list of every film and television show coming to Amazon Prime Video and its free ad-supported service, Amazon Freevee, in September 2024.
