New Arrivals for Prime Video December 2024

Prime Video subscribers will be saying goodbye to Freeveee in December 2024. Amazon’s now-defunct, ad-supported streaming alternative was free on the platform. While it may be shutting down, all of the films and shows that were offered on the channel are getting integrated into Prime Video at no extra charge. Considering that Prime Video already offers a cheaper ad-supported subscription, perhaps including Freevee was a bit redundant or confusing for consumers. Nonetheless, December 2024 is bringing a compact list of exciting additions to the Prime Video streaming service to maintain its dominance over other streamers. Critically acclaimed movies like A Quiet Place: Day One and The Bikeriders are just the tip of the iceberg.

The first exclusive streaming release to look out for is the Prime Video original series The Sticky, premiering on December 6, 2024. Based on the true story that’s been unceremoniously dubbed the “Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist,” The Sticky follows Ruth Landry (Emmy winner Margo Martindale), a middle-aged maple syrup farmer who takes drastic, illegal measures when her entire livelihood is at risk of being abruptly taken away. With the help of a grumpy Bostonian mobster (Chris Diamantopoulos) and one harmless French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr), Ruth attempts a multi-million dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus. In addition to being an executive producer on this Amazon series, Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis will pop in as a guest star.

The next Amazon show everyone should cue up this month is Secret Level. The adult animated anthology series comes from Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller, who’s also famous for creating another animated anthology program: the Emmy-winning Love Death + Robots on Netflix. Unlike that streaming show, which focuses on creating entirely different original worlds through various animation techniques, Secret Level is widely ambitious with how it handles IP. But not just any intellectual properties; Secret Level tells 15 standalone stories that each take place in the unique worlds of the most popular video game franchises.

In this first season of Secret Level, Prime Video subscribers will be treated to original adventures that take place in the expansive universes of Mega Man, God of War, Dungeons & Dragons, Armored Core, Pac-Man, Warhammer 40,000, and more. If that wasn’t already impressive enough, the voice cast for these 15 short stories features A-listers like Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Gabriel Luna, and more. Tim Miller continues to be at the forefront of pushing innovative 3D animation, making Secret Level totally unique from any other Prime Video series. If Secret Level gets the green light for a second season, the sky’s the limit for which other video game properties could be included next!

On the topic of games, December 2024 is also welcoming some exciting Prime Video original game shows. First up is Pop Culture Jeopardy!, a spin-off series hosted by Saturday Night Live‘s Colin Jost. It plays exactly like the iconic Jeopardy! quiz program but with topics solely focused on movies, music, sports, memes, and other types of popular media. Then comes Beast Games, a new Squid Game-inspired reality competition program that comes from the mind of Jimmy Donaldson, otherwise known as the mega-successful entrepreneur and Youtuber Mr. Beast. The 10-episode competition series is reported to break 40 new world records and will feature 1,000 contestants fighting over a cash prize of $5 million.

Mr. Beast first tried to recapture the magic of Netflix’s Squid Game in one of his highest-viewed YouTube videos from 2021, titled “$456,000 Squid Game in Real Life!” However, this time, Mr. Beast is facing great controversy, as a group of unnamed Beast Games participants have come forward with allegations of exploiting players, irresponsibly creating an abusive work environment, and unsafe filming conditions. Mr. Beast himself has said these allegations are being “blown out of proportion.” We will more than likely get more updates on these accusations when the Prime Video show premieres on December 19, 2024, for the whole world to see.

As mentioned earlier, A Quiet Place: Day One is making its Prime Video debut at the very end of December 2024. Directed by Pig filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, A Quiet Place: Day One is the first spin-off film to come from the beloved horror franchise. Led by Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o and rising star Joseph Quinn, who recently starred in the critically acclaimed hits The Wild Robot and Gladiator II, respectively, this prequel/spin-off more than justifies its existence with their incredibly captivating performances alone. Moving onto The Bikeriders, one of the most overlooked indie releases of the year could finally get the attention it deserves when it hits Prime Video on December 10, 2024.

Starring Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and Jodie Comer, The Bikeriders is based on a real Midwestern motorcycle club that, during the 1960s, went from being a haven for all kinds of gearheads, grease monkeys, and outsiders to a deadly criminal gang. Funny enough, writer-director Jeff Nichols (Loving, Midnight Special) was originally supposed to direct A Quiet Place: Day One before he exited due to creative differences. Instead, he devoted his time to crafting a genuine “slice of life” and ensemble piece with The Bikeriders. Moreover, fans of Tom Hardy who haven’t seen Nichols’ movie are in for a real treat as the actor undeniably delivers one of the most understated performances of his career here.

Other must-see movies coming to Prime Video in December 2024 include Rian Johnson’s cunning whodunnit Knives Out, Ari Aster’s surrealist tragicomedy Beau Is Afraid, and Gareth Edwards’ original sci-fi epic The Creator. Additionally, moviegoers excited for James Mangold’s upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet, can stream one of his earlier gems, Cop Land. Similarly, those still on the Gladiator II high can revisit Ridley Scott’s earlier classic, Thelma & Louise. Last but not least, Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie trilogy in which he plays esteemed detective Hercule Poirot — Murder on The Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice — is coming to Prime Video this month.
