Netflix is adding a winter wonderland’s worth of original films, television shows, and modern gems to its streaming library in December 2024. Getting right into it, pop star Sabrina Carpenter is debuting her own live Netflix event, titled A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter. Carpetner’s holiday special is looking to provide Netflix subscribers with some Christmas cheer in a unique format, featuring a mix of skits, comedic cameos, and musical performances by the main pop star as well as a swath of special guests like Troye Sivan, Chappell Roan, Tyla, and Kali Uchis. Carpenter’s growing, dedicated fanbase can tune into A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter live on December 6, 2024, starting at 9 pm ET/6 pm PT.

Next up on the list of new arrivals is the Netflix original series Black Doves, which lands on December 5, 2024. Led by Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice, Pirates of the Caribbean), the streamer is so confident in this spy thriller that it’s already been renewed for a second season. Black Doves follows Helen Webb (Knightley), a spy who’s inadvertently thrown into a spicey love affair after her cover is almost thrown during Christmas. Going back and forth between the high life of British politics and London’s criminal underworld, this six-episode Netflix show is not to be missed. Black Doves also co-stars Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley), Ben Whishaw (Paddington), and Andrew Koji (Warrior).

Moving on to Squid Game Season 2, the hit Korean drama series is all but guaranteed to dominate the zeitgeist once again when it finally returns on December 26, 2024. The long-awaited second season picks up shortly after where it left off. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) must re-enter the deadly games played for cash to get revenge on the mysterious mastermind behind it all, The Frontman (Lee Byung-hun). The first season of Squid Game was so successful that it became one of Netflix’s most streamed shows of all time. The pressure on creator/writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk to deliver another thrilling season filled with unexpected twists and turns, ingenious games, and deeply realized characters could not be higher.

People should additionally take note of three Netflix original film premieres this month. The first is Carry-On, an action thriller where Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocketman) plays a TSA officer who is blackmailed by a passenger (Jason Bateman) into letting a mysterious, lethal package go through airport security. Arriving on December 13, 2024, Carry-On feels right in line with director Jaume Collett-Serra’s other movies, like the Liam Neeson-led thrillers Unknown and Non-Stop. Tyler Perry’s historical drama, The Six Triple Eight, then follows later in the month. Starring Kerry Washington, the WWII drama centers on the titular all-black, all-female battalion. Debuting on December 20, 2024, The Six Triple Eight looks like a refreshing change of pace from Perry’s usually comedic antics.

The last Netflix movie to put on the holiday watchlist is Pablo Larraín‘s Maria, which has enjoyed a limited theatrical run after its Venice Film Festival world premiere. Starring the great Angelina Jolie as prolific opera singer Maria Callas, Larraín’s film is unlike his two previous biopics on historical female figures, Spencer and Jackie. More specifically, it focuses on the final days of Callas’ life spent in Paris. Maria has garnered serious awards consideration for Angelina Jolie’s captivating performance, and it should be interesting to see how the streamer plans to support a potential Best Actress campaign for her. Netflix subscribers will get to see what all the fuss is about when Maria hits Netflix on December 11, 2024.

There’s a noticeably smaller list of repertory content arriving on the Netflix streaming service this month, yet it’s worth mentioning a few special additions. The first is the indie music biopic Kneecap, which follows the titular, real-life Irish hip-hop trio from West Belfast playing themselves in a new retelling of their rise to fame. Looking for something funny for the adults? The raunchy puppet comedy The Happytime Murders is getting added at the top of the month, as well as We’re the Millers. Then, Bottoms writer-director Emma Seligman’s hilarious feature debut, Shiva Baby, led by comedic superstar Rachel Sennott, arrives on December 7, 2024. Lastly, Kathryn Bigelow’s political thriller Zero Dark Thirty is fresh on Netflix this month, too.
