Monster: The Ed Gein Story is at the top of the Netflix October 2025 list of new arrivals. The third season of Ryan Murphy‘s Monster anthology series focuses on the titular, infamous murderer and grave robber, who is known for inspiring multiple Hollywood horror classics, such as Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Led by Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, Netflix is shaping up The Ed Gein Story as the prime streaming choice for the 2025 Halloween season. True crime fanatics have much more in store, too. Murphy is already developing the fourth season of Monster, which will follow the famous axe murderer suspect Lizzie Borden. For now, The Ed Gein Story premieres on October 3.

As the upcoming awards season approaches, some of the most promising award contenders are set to debut on the Netflix streaming platform in October 2025. Starting with Steve on October 3, the intimate drama stars Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) as the devoted headteacher of a last-chance reform school for young boys. Moving on to A House of Dynamite on October 23, Netflix subscribers get a tense, front-row seat to an accurate depiction of how the White House responds to nuclear missiles heading to America in real time. This highly anticipated Netflix original film marks the return of Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow, best known for helming The Hurt Locker (2008) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012).

Next up, from All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) and Concalve (2024) director Edward Berger comes Ballad of a Small Player on October 29. Amid the glittering casinos of Macau, a troubled gambler (Golden Globe-winner Colin Farrell) running away from his past debts becomes fascinated by an enigmatic woman at the baccarat table. Although not necessarily an Oscar contender, The Woman in Cabin 10 arrives on October 10 for those in the mood for more exciting original thrillers. The Netflix movie centers on a female journalist (Keira Knightley), who witnesses a passenger going overboard from a lavish yacht while on assignment. But when no one believes her, she risks her life to uncover the truth.

Several fan-favorite Netflix shows are also returning for new seasons in October 2025. Two big examples are The Diplomat Season 3, premiering on October 16, and Nobody Wants This Season 2, which lands on October 23. However, the one Netflix original series that arguably has the most attention is The Witcher Season 4, as it’s the first with actor Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill as the titular monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia. After the Continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allan) find themselves separated across a war-torn world. If the three are to reunite, they must embrace unexpected allies and face powerful enemies, including the evil Vilgefortz of Roggeveen (Mahesh Jadu).

Finally, Netflix’s streaming library is adding plenty of horror favorites in time for the spooky season. The Strangers (2008) remains timeless and just as eerie as ever, as does George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (1968). Meanwhile, Casper (1995) should keep the kids satisfied. In terms of other streaming recommendations, Donnie Yen’s Ip Man franchise is a must-see for all action fans, and the first four movies are getting added to Netflix on October 5.
