The highly anticipated horror prequel series, It: Welcome to Derry, is at the forefront of the HBO Max October 2025 list of new arrivals. Developed by It (2017) and It: Chapter Two (2019) director Andy Muschietti, this HBO original series has been long in the making. Much of the excitement has been built around the return of actor Bill Skarsgård as the malevolent, child-eating alien who disguises itself as Pennywise the Clown. The show takes viewers back to when the parents of Losers Club member Mike Hanlon — Leroy (Jovan Adepo) and Charlotte Hanlon (Taylour Paige) — first moved to the small town of Derry, Maine, in 1962.
Just as Leory and Charlotte settle into Derry, a young boy goes missing. Pennywise’s cycle of violence once again ramps up, but this time in a different time period than what audiences have seen in Andy Muschietti’s franchise. It: Welcome to Derry has its HBO Max streaming premiere on October 26, right in time for Halloween! On that note, HBO Max subscribers can also look forward to streaming A24’s Bring Her Back (2025) this Halloween season. Directed by Danny and Michael Phillipou of RackaRacka YouTube fame, Bring Her Back is an extraordinarily twisted take on loss and grief, anchored by Sally Hawkins delivering one of the most sinister performances in any horror movie this year.
While Bring Her Back arrives on October 3, 2025, the Phillipou brothers’ smash feature debut Talk to Me (2023) is coming to the streamer on the first of the month. The critically acclaimed possession party flick is perfect for Halloween. It even has an upcoming sequel, aptly titled Talk 2 Me, in development by the Phillipou twins. Moving on, The Substance (2024) needs no introduction. Coralie Fargeat‘s audacious body horror film, led by Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling earlier this year. There’s no better time to re-experience this gross-out, wild ride when it hits the HBO Max streaming service on October 10.
To pivot back to HBO originals, The Chair Company is premiering on October 12, 2025. The series reunites creator/star Tim Robinson with his I Think You Should Leave co-creator Zach Kanin. An embarrassing incident at work leads a Midwestern named William Trosper (Robinson) tumbling down a rabbit hole of vast criminal conspiracies. Co-starring Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, and Lou Diamond Phillips, The Chair Company looks like a different flavor of cringe comedy than I Think You Should Leave or Robinson’s recent movie, Friendship. Still, this first season, consisting of 8 episodes, is no less mandatory viewing for fans of his comedic work.
Finally, the much-buzzed-about dramedy Sorry, Baby (2025) arrives on HBO Max at the end of the month on October 30. After an unspeakable traumatic incident, Agnes (played by writer-director Eva Victor) is forced to readjust to life as everything seems like it’s slipping away. Featuring memorable supporting performances by Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, and John Caroll Lynch, Sorry, Baby is sure to find a second life on HBO Max. To close with some final horror streaming recommendations, many classic entries in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise are getting added at the top of October 2025. Jason Voorhees fanatics, meanwhile, have the 2009 Friday the 13th remake and 2003’s unhinged crossover, Freddy vs. Jason, to look forward to.
