DiscussingFilm is proud to exclusively debut the first teaser trailer and poster for Macon Blair’s Idiots (previously titled The Shitheads). Having premiered earlier this year at Sundance 2026, the laugh-out-loud raunchy comedy is now gearing up for a wide theatrical release on August 28 via the Independent Film Company (IFC).
The latest from writer-director Macon Blair (2023’s The Toxic Avenger remake, I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore), Idiots stars Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. as two unqualified bozos who are hired to transfer a rich teen to rehab, only for their simple job to quickly spiral into dangerous mayhem. The rich teen in question is played by none other than Mason Thames, who is coming off an incredibly successful 2025 with starring roles in Regretting You, Black Phone 2, and the live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake.

Dave Franco is also coming off a hot streak in 2025, having also starred in Regretting You as well as the indie horror hit Together and the long-awaited sequel Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. He was most recently heard as the villain in Pixar’s Hoppers. Meanwhile, O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s recent success leading the Den of Thieves action franchise speaks for itself. Rounding out the colorful cast of Idiots is Industry star Kiernan Shipka and returning Blair collaborator Peter Dinklage, whose hilarious roles are too good to spoil online.
