The Netflix May 2026 list of new arrivals may be the beefiest among the streaming competitors. To start us off, Lord of the Flies isn’t the first adaptation of Sir William Golding’s famous 1954 novel, but it’s the first specifically made for television. Adapted by Emmy-winning screenwriter Jack Thorne (Adolescence, Enola Holmes), the four-episode miniseries follows a group of schoolboys who become stranded on an island after a plane crash and form their own makeshift society. Press in the UK gave the series positive notices for its young cast and for fleshing out the source material upon its original airing on the BBC earlier this year. Now, Lord of the Flies comes to Netflix on May 4.

Another British Netflix show, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, returns for its second season on May 27. Based on the popular YA mystery novel series by Holly Jackson, A Minecraft Movie and Wednesday star Emma Myers plays Pippa Fitz-Amobi, or “Pip” for short. The determined teen sleuth takes matters into her own hands to solve cases the authorities can’t. On a similar note, the Netflix original series Legends, created by Neil Forsyth, should satisfy the British crime-thriller niche for older audiences. Based on an untold true story, Legends follows a team that goes undercover to combat a drug crisis plaguing ‘90s Britain. Starring Steve Coogan, Tom Burke, and Hayley Squires, Legends premieres on May 7.

Next up, the Devil May Cry animated series is back for its second season on May 12. Developed by Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and based on Capcom’s best-selling video game franchise, Devil May Cry follows the explosive exploits of Dante — a sly, cambion demon hunter for hire — who also finds himself being hunted by the government organization, Dark Realm Command (DARKCOM). Staying on animation, Nick Kroll and the creative minds behind Netflix’s Big Mouth are back with a new spin-off series: Mating Season. The adult animated sitcom centers on mature topics such as sex and relationships within the world of anthropomorphic animals. Expect crude humor in spades when Mating Season makes its Netflix debut on May 22.

Netflix subscribers should queue up The Four Seasons Season 2 in May 2026, too. The first season, co-created by and starring Tina Fey, was based on Alan Alda’s 1981 film of the same name and followed three suburban couples whose relationships are tested as they take seasonal vacations together. Fey, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Erika Henningsen return for more fun as viewers go through yet another year in these characters’ lives on May 28. To wrap up Netflix shows, The Boroughs promises a thrilling mystery with The Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) being attached as producers. On May 21, audiences will be transported to a “seemingly picturesque retirement community” that is harboring an otherworldly threat.

For Netflix original films, the rom-com Ladies First is one streaming recommendation that will surely deliver plenty of laughs on May 22. Starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike, the Netflix movie follows a sexist man who somehow ends up in a world where women have all the power. Meanwhile, Swapped will provide fun for the whole family at the top of the month. Starring Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), the latest from Skydance Animation centers on the conundrum between a small woodland mammal and a majestic bird, two sworn natural enemies who magically swap bodies after an accident. Children won’t want to miss out on Swapped when it arrives on May 1.

In terms of live events, Netflix subscribers have the Roast of Kevin Hart, as part of the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival, on May 11, while the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano fight on May 16 will be the streaming service’s first-ever live MMA event. Discover more about our monthly recommendations below, then check out the list of every film and TV show coming to the Netflix streaming platform in May 2026.
