The Netflix August 2026 list of new arrivals features some heavy hitters for the streaming service. For starters, Outer Banks returns for its fifth and final season on August 20. The treasure-hunting adventures of the lovable North Carolina teenagers known as “The Pogues” and their rivalry with the affluent “Kooks” will finally come to an end. Outer Banks has been a steady success across the years, with the Netflix show helping launch the careers of stars Madelyn Cline (Glass Onion, I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Drew Starkey (Queer, Onslaught). Safe to say, this Netflix original series will be dearly missed.
In terms of movies, Netflix is bringing the genre scares in August 2026 with The Last House. Directed by Louis Leterrier (Fast X) and headlined by Greta Lee (Past Lives, Toy Story 5) and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent, Narcos), The Last House boasts the sort of premise that’ll immediately suck Netflix subscribers in. A family of four is suddenly trapped inside their home and has to find a way out, all while a mysterious force watches them from outside. Billed as much as science fiction as it is horror/thriller, it will be interesting to find out what ultimately lies within this mystery box when The Last House premieres on August 7.
The return of Netflix’s sleeper comedy hit Tires must also be mentioned. Coming back for its third season on August 13, Tires, co-created by comedian Shane Gillis, Steve Gerben, and John McKeever, finds two cousins (Gillis and Gerben) trying to revitalize their failing automotive repair shop. Having built strong viewership for its crude humor and familiar workplace sitcom format, the second season significantly increased the show’s popularity thanks to veteran actor Thomas Haden Church. His role, in particular, gained so much attention that he was upped to a series regular for Tires Season 3.
One major Netflix movie to look forward to is The Whisper Man, produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Doomsday). A crime writer (Adam Scott) is left in shambles when his 8-year-old son is kidnapped. This forces him to reluctantly reconnect with his detective father (Robert De Niro), who, along with his partner (Michelle Monaghan), links the abduction to a decades-old serial killer case revolving around a figure known as “The Whisper Man.” Based on the 2019 novel by crime author Alex North, the film co-stars Michael Keaton and Hamish Linklater, making it even more of a must-watch when it arrives on the Netflix streaming service on August 28.
Other streaming recommendations for Netflix in August 2026 include Ricky Gervais’ animated adult comedy Alley Cats and Let’s Marry Harry, a new reality dating series that follows 20 women competing for a shot at love with former Too Hot to Handle winner Harry Jowsey. There is plenty of great repertory content to choose from, too. The first 7 movies in the Fast & Furious franchise have just been added this month, as well as most of the Child’s Play/Chucky films. Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, is now available to stream, perfect for subscribers craving a dark crime thriller. Finally, the Keanu Reeves action classic Speed and its not-so-classic sequel Speed 2: Cruise Control make for a chaotic double feature.
