We have learned that Netflix is in early talks to secure worldwide distribution rights for The Russo Brothers’ next film, ‘Cherry’.

‘Cherry’ is the first film following ‘Avengers: Endgame’ that the Russo Brothers will direct, they will also produce the film under their AGBO production company. Tom Holland will star as the titular lead Cherry in the film which will focus on a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme un-diagnosed PTSD, fell into opioid addiction, and began robbing banks, the Russo Brothers have highlighted that this is a personal story for them to tell. Jessica Goldberg and Angela Russo-Otstot will write the screenplay based on the source material by Nico Walker, Trent Opaloch will serve as cinematographer and Philip Ivey will serve as production designer on the film.

Per our sources, no contracts have been signed yet, but Netflix has shown genuine interest in acquiring the film, and has made the first steps to do so. It will be a while until anything is finalised in regards to distribution, as multiple studios will also be keen to bid for distribution rights when they arrive on the market.

AGBO has worked with Netflix recently on ‘Dhaka’, a film directed by Sam Hargave, written by Joe Russo and starring Chris Hemsworth & David Harbour which follows an Indian businessman who recruits a mercenary to find his kidnapped son. Netflix will be distributing that film also for AGBO so it seems that the production company may want to continue to pursue their ongoing relationship with Netflix.

Representatives from AGBO are yet to respond to request for comment on this story.
