CinemaCon 2026 has been one to remember, with presentations from Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures offering cinephiles plenty to chew on these past three days. Next up is Amazon MGM Studios, who are expected to highlight just as many original films as franchise-related ones on their slate. The official convention of Cinema United, formerly known as the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), CinemaCon has become one of the year’s top news events for eager moviegoers. The annual event brings together over 6,000 theater owners, distributors, exhibitors, industry professionals, and journalists from 60+ countries at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to celebrate the communal theatrical experience and discuss what’s to come.

Amazon MGM Studios is expected to give updates on the live-action Masters of the Universe movie, Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and the highly anticipated comedy sequel, Spaceballs 2. Press and CinemaCon attendees might also get the latest news on David Leitch’s next action-comedy, How to Rob a Bank, and the action film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, starring Mahershala Ali and directed by Bassam Tariq. Notably, Ali and Tariq were originally going to make Marvel Studios’ Blade before the director left the project. This is only Amazon MGM’s second year at CinemaCon, so they face pressure to deliver a presentation that can match those of the other studios.

CinemaCon is not open to the public, which means there are no online releases of exclusive footage or first-look reveals from the event. But look no further, as we at DiscussingFilm will be listing below every major news update and exclusive footage description LIVE from Amazon MGM Studios’ CinemaCon 2026 studio presentation. Stay tuned as we continue to cover this year’s CinemaCon throughout the week, with presentations from Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Studios still to come.

Live Amazon MGM Updates From CinemaCon 2026

Masters of the Universe

Release Date: June 5th, 2026.
Directed by Travis Knight.
Screenplay by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, & David Callaham.
Based on the Masters of the Universe franchise by Mattel.
Produced by Bill Baumann, Todd Black, Robbie Brenner, & Steve Tisch.
Main Cast: Nicolas Galitzine, Idris Elba, Allison Brie, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto, & Camilla Mendes.

Exclusive Footage Description: At the beginning of the footage of Masters of the Universe that CinemaCon attendees were treated to, Adam (Nicolas Galitzine) is in the back of a police car as “What’s Up?” by 4 Non Blondes is playing. As the police question why he has a sword, a huge monster, Beast Man, starts tearing up the highway. Adam grabs the sword but is unable to hold Beast Man at bay until the warrior Teela (Camilla Mendes) saves him, recognizing him. She then takes Adam to the realm of Eternia, where he used to be a prince. While his own people don’t recognize him, they eventually rally behind him to go after Skeletor.

Speaking of Skeletor, Jared Leto’s voice performance features a mix of the classic high-pitched laugh and a deeper snarl. We see a large swath of extremely colorful action, including tons of lasers, He-Man’s giant green sidekick, Battle Cat, and Man at Arms (Idris Elba) kicking ass. The footage ends with an electric action sequence where He-Man fights an entire throne room full of Skeletor’s goons, the camera going full 360 to capture every little impact, before he moves on to the purple-hooded skeleton man himself. Fans of the cartoon will be extremely satisfied with what they see, as many colorful characters, both big and small, from MOTU appear, while the uninitiated will be drawn in by its wild aesthetic.

How to Rob a Bank

Release Date: September 4, 2026.
Directed by David Leitch.
Written by Mark Bianculli.
Produced by Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Allan Mandelbaum, David Leitch & Kelly McCormick.
Main Cast: Nicholas Hoult, Anna Sawai, Pete Davidson, Zoë Kravitz, Rhenzy Feliz, John C. Reilly & Christian Slater.

Exclusive Footage Description: Stunt bikers in wolf masks, Pete Davidson, and director David Leitch introduced an exclusive trailer for How to Rob a Bank, a Hollywoodized action movie take on a true story, at CinemaCon 2026. The trailer follows a group of friends played by Nicolas Hoult, Anna Sawai, and Pete Davidson who are living out a Robin Hood fantasy, robbing banks and giving to charity, all while recording their escapades on YouTube.

John C. Reilly’s FBI agent character seeks the help of Zoë Kravitz’s character, a hacker and ex-girlfriend of the leader of the “wolf pack,” played by Nicholas Hoult. As the wolf pack plans their biggest heist yet, they are chased by the police, and radicalized fans of the channel join the fight against corruption. How to Rob a Bank fits perfectly in line with David Leitch’s filmography, this time flavored with a story of camaraderie, defying power structures, and the dangers of internet virality.

I Play Rocky

Release Date: November 13, 2026.
Directed by Peter Farrelly.
Written by Peter Gamble.
Produced by Toby Emmerich & Christian Baha.
Main Cast: Anthony Ippolito, Stephan James, AnnaSophia Robb, Matt Dillon, P. J. Byrne, Toby Kebbell, Tracy Letts, Jay Duplass, & Robert Morgan.

Exclusive Footage Description: Peter Farrelly and the cast of I Play Rocky entered the stage at CinemaCon 2026 to introduce their new film, which centers on the true story of how Sylvester Stallone developed the screenplay of Rocky and catapulted himself into stardom. Anthony Ippolito plays young Stallone, who then went by the stage name “Mike.” We are shown AnnaSophia Robb as Sasha Czack, giving him the stage name Sylvester Stallone to stand out, encouraging him to write himself a starring role so he can move past being a starving actor.

The trailer then shows the process of meeting with studio heads and the bidding war for the rights to the Rocky script, as well as Stallone trying to convince suits that he is the right person for the role. I Play Rocky, just like the original Rocky, is an underdog story of persistence, overcoming obstacles, and the fight for the American dream. Farrelly’s film feels like it is aiming for prestige, but it is interestingly meta as a celebration of the 50-year-old classic.

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother

Release Date: TBD.
Directed by Bassam Tariq.
Written by Bassam Tariq.
Produced by Bassam Tariq, Lucan Toh, & Babak Anvari.
Main Cast: Mahershala Ali, John Cho, Giancarlo Esposito, Abubakr Ali, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, & Laith Nakli.

Exclusive Footage Description: CinemaCon 2026 attendees were given the first look at Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which follows a father balancing life as a hitman with his children. That indicates a much lighter tone, but the Houston, Texas set film looks very dark, with the footage beginning with Mahershala Ali refusing to pray at a mosque. Frequently clad in a face mask, Mahershala’s character begins to tear through the city, taking a break from his small job selling perfumes.

The footage shown has a strong sense of place, including sub-locations like an opulent mansion where John Cho’s real-nasty cowboy-hat villain lives. Here we have an action film that prioritizes the emotional weight and messy brutality that loss and the destruction of community have inflicted on its protagonist. It looks as if Bassam Tariq and Mahershala Ali not doing Blade was for the better, as what they’ve cooked up together looks much more deeply personal and interesting.

Beekeeper 2

Directed by Timo Tjahjanto.
Written by Umair Aleem.
Produced by Jason Statham, Chris Long, & Kurt Wimmer.
Main Cast: Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave, Jeremy Irons, Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, & Adam Copeland.

Exclusive Footage Description: Jason Statham introduced Cinemacon 2026 attendees with the first trailer for Beekeeper 2, which opens with an autopiloted Cybertruck infiltrating a base. The goons open the door and find a tied-up government agent in the driver’s seat, enter Statham as the former disgraced assassin Adam Clay, continuing his revenge mission against the Beekeepers organization, and with the end goal of overthrowing the U.S. Government.

The action in this trailer is just as showy and brutal as the first film, but some highlights include Clay unleashing a horde of bees on some enemies during combat, Clay armed with a flamethrower and burning an agent’s face, and a high-octane car chase. One of the standout scenes of the trailer is Clay entering a chamber full of bees and using them to heal his wounds. Beekeeper 2 is certain to thrill and present its wacky over-the-top kills with winks and one-liners.

The Thomas Crown Affair

Release Date: March 5th. 2027.
Directed by Michael B. Jordan.
Screenplay by Drew Pearce.
Based on the novel by Alan Trustman.
Produced by Michael B. Jordan, Patrick McCormick, Elizabeth Raposo, Charles Roven, & Marc Toberoff.
Main Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Paapa Essiedu, Aubrey Plaza, Ruth Negga, Pilou Asbæk, Aiysha Hart, & Paapa Essiedu.

Exclusive Footage Description: Amazon-MGM opened their Cinemacon 2026 panel with a bang by bringing Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan and composer John Baptiste to the stage to introduce Jordan’s passion project, a third remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, in which he is also directing, producing, and starring in. Audiences also got a first look at a trailer for the film. The trailer opens with a conversation between Jordan as master thief Thomas Crown and an insurance woman, played by Adria Ajorna, in a confrontation. He has successfully stolen some of the world’s most prized artworks, and his next target belongs to a high-profile elite figure played by Kenneth Branagh.

Just as the original, the film centers on a thrilling cat-and-mouse game and romance between Thomas Crown and the museum’s insurance investigator. The trailer has equal parts sleek action, character moments, and spectacle, which is fitting, as Michael B. Jordan promised that the film is designed for the big-screen experience. While the action definitely feels inspired by the Daniel Craig James Bond films and even by Christopher Nolan, Jordan has crafted his own thrilling visuals that are in a league of their own.

Spaceballs: The New One

Release Date: April 23, 2027.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum.
Screenplay by Josh Gad, Mel Brooks, Benji Samit, & Dan Hernandez.
Produced by Mel Brooks, Josh Gad, Josh Greenbaum, Kevin Salter, Jeb Brody, Brian Grazer, & Ron Howard.
Main Cast: Mel Brooks, Rick Moranis, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, George Wyner, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman & Anthony Carrigan.

Exclusive Footage Description: After a hilarious introduction where Rick Moranis was consistently interrupted, the unbelievably hilarious footage for the Spaceballs sequel starts off with teasing shots, such as Dark Helmet’s helmet buried in the sand and figures that look like Rey and Finn. The sizzle we got then talks about how people have been speculating about the second Spaceballs movie, including clips of online figures like John Campea and Grace Randolph, before transitioning into a montage with almost too many great moments to count.

There are purposely unfinished VFX shots, a Harry Potter parody for whatever reason, the Rey-like figure stepping out of a Marvel Cinematic Universe portal, and Lewis Pullman and Josh Gad looking to be playing the sons of Bill Pullman and John Candy’s characters from the original. Lord Dark Helmet’s new helmet specifically parodies Kylo Ren’s mask. We see a droid that is supposed to look like BB-8, but is instead a small cube that looks awkward as it stumbles around.

A Na’vi from James Cameron’s Avatar walks into a bathroom and starts peeing in the urinal next to where Rick Moranis’ Dark Helmet is peeing, with him then looking over at his privates with 3D glasses saying, “Oel ngati kameie” (I See You). That’s just a taste of the chaos that Spaceballs: The New One is cooking up. It has been 40 years since the original film parodied the Star Wars trilogy, and now it seems the sequel is here to poke fun not just at SW but at all aspects of film culture as a whole.

Highlander

Release Date: TBA.
Directed by Chad Stahelski.
Screenplay by Kerry Williamson & Mike Finch.
Based on the Highlander franchise created by Gregory Widen, Peter Bellwood, & Larry Ferguson.
Main Cast: Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Drew McIntyre, Max Zhang, Jeremy Irons, Siobhán Cullen, Jeon Jong-seo, Nassim Lyes, & Kevin McKidd.

Exclusive Footage Description: The footage shown of Chad Stahelski’s Highlander was a bit of a mix between a featurette and a trailer. Starting with Henry Cavill’s Connor McLeod walking into a church, proclaiming he was born in 1518 and is an immortal, the footage then transitions into intricate sword battles in neon-lit environments that recall, well, the John Wick films. Rather than Christopher Lambert’s unidentifiable “from everywhere” accent, Cavill’s interpretation of Connor maintains his Scottish accent the whole time. Similarly, Dave Bautista’s Kurgan feels more subdued than Clancy Brown’s iconic work. We see glimpses of the Kurgan as a Nazi in World War II fighting Connor.

These changes aren’t necessarily bad, though. This new Highlander looks like a far more expansive, blockbuster-like version of the more intimate, though no less imaginative, original, with dozens and dozens of immortals running around now. Stahelski stressed the expanded mythology of this new version and Cavill’s commitment to the role, and we see brief glimpses of Russell Crowe’s Ramirez. While the film currently looks like John Wick with swords rather than a full-blown remake, Stahelski did stress that there is more filming to be done, including in Hong Kong and, of course, the Scottish Highlands, as the cast and crew repeat the iconic line “There can be only one.”

A Colt is My Passport

Release Date: TBA 2027.
Directed by Gareth Evans.

Exclusive Footage Description: In a bit of a surprise to CinemaCon 2026 attendees, the trailer for A Colt is My Passport, director Gareth Evans’ reimagining of Takeshi Nomura’s original film from 1967. The trailer sees a hitman (Sope Dirisu) in 1970s Detroit completing a hit that sees him empty full dual-wielded pistols into a man’s chest at point-blank range. His boss, played by Tim Roth, however, does not want to pay him for the hit and instead sends a squadron of other hitmen, led by Jack Reynor, after him.

The stylistic flourishes on Reynor’s character, in particular, showcase the heavy style Evans is going for, with a lot of his scenes being in black-and-white. Another interesting shot involves someone being shot, causing the entire frame to turn red except for the figure who went down, then turning into an all-black silhouette. The action is frenetic and brutal throughout, showcased most so by a scene where the titular hitman, Colt, uses a bayonet to stab someone’s arm, and then moves the bayonet around to use the man’s weapon to strike someone else behind him. Gareth Evans’ A Colt is My Passport seems determined to top even Evans’ now-iconic The Raid franchise.
