New Arrivals for Disney+ November 2020

LEGO versions of Finn, Poe, Rose, Lando and Chewbacca inside the Millennium Falcon.

November marks one year since Disney+ launched, and with it comes new content. Season 2 of The Mandalorian continues through this month with four new episodes, along with the final episodes of The Right Stuff, before its finale on November 20. On that same day, Disney+ will release a documentary called The Real Right Stuff. Instead of your typical narration and interviews, the doc will utilize never-before-seen footage, newly digitized home movies captured on 8 mm and 16 mm film, and rare photographs from LIFE Magazine showing the home lives of the Mercury Seven astronauts.

There are a number of other brand new exclusives coming. Black Beauty, about the unbreakable bond between a girl and a wild horse, releases this month. Starring Mackenzie Foy (The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) and Kate Winslet, the films distribution rights were acquired from Constantin Film, and marks the second feature acquisition for Disney+ in light of COVID-19’s impact on the film industry. Clouds was released in October after being acquired from Warner Bros.

The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, the successor to Disney’s poorly-titled Mickey Mouse series, debuts with brand-new adventures starring Mickey and the gang. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, LEGO’s take on The TV Special That Must Not Be Named, premieres in time for the holiday season. It debuts on November 17, exactly 42 years after the near-universally maligned original. Another holiday offering this month is Disney’s 2009 animated take on A Christmas Carol, starring Jim Carrey and directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Our Recs:

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special

Finn, Rey, Poe, Rose and Chewbacca in ‘The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special’ courtesy of Disney

Taking place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special follows Rey as she journeys with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force, leaving their friends aboard the Millennium Falcon to prepare for Life Day, the famed Wookiee holiday. However, Rey’s course deviates as she is hurled into an adventure across time, meeting various figures of galactic history. Returning actors who lend their voice for this holiday special include Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Tom Kane as Yoda and Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico. It’s LEGO and Star Wars, you can never go wrong with that combination.

The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse

It’s only been a year since Mickey Mouse ended, but the sensational six is back for new adventures with The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse on Disney+. Much more charming title. Much of the same production crew is back for this new series, so there isn’t much to say other than you’re in for some hilarious time. It premieres on November 18, coinciding with Mickey’s 92nd birthday.

The Mandalorian (Season 2)

Din Djarin, aka "The Mandalorian", rides a speeder bike with "the Child" in a sack behind him.

The Mandalorian is back and honestly… no one really knows what it’s about. All we do know is that Din Djarin’s mission now is to care for the Child until it can be reunited with its kind. Greef Karga is officially an ally to Mando & co. and Moff Gideon is on the hunt. Let’s hope that the new season doesn’t focus too much on the wider universe and potential cameos but more on the story at hand.
