New Arrivals for HBO Max November 2020

by Andrew J. Salazar
Lin-Manuel Miranda is ready with gun at hand in season 2 of 'His Dark Materials.'

October was another solid month for HBO Max with a wave of new horror titles, and November 2020 is aiming to arrive with equal energy. The seasonal shift would suggest a calm transition into a holiday-packed December, but the streaming service is flooring the gas on originals. HBO Max originals are far from scarce, but the platform needs vast expansion in order to ride with the competition (Netflix and Hulu had a stronger Halloween presence with original content). To be fair, this streaming service isn’t even half a year old yet. But with the just-announced loss of Quibi, time takes no prisoners in the world of streaming.

HBO Max is getting with the picture though, nearly ten originals of all kinds are premiering in November. Films, shows, and specials are going to spread the name of the brand across town. Keep an eye out for The Flight Attendant, a new dark comedy/thriller series lead by Kaley Cuoco. Full Bloom might turn heads as the service’s floral competition series amped up to ‘Willy Wonka’ levels of absurd. Finally, no one will want to miss the long-awaited Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special. The West Wing Reunion Special of October created a fair amount of buzz and given that this next one is a guaranteed success, it should be interesting to see how HBO Max prioritizes these types of specials moving forward (take note that a Friends reunion is still on the way).

Check out more of our recommendations below along with the full list of everything coming to and leaving HBO Max in November. See what’s also in store for Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+!

Our Recs:

His Dark Materials

His Dark Materials: Season 2 | Official Trailer | HBO

His Dark Materials returns this month with its second season. The series adapts Philip Pullman’s trilogy of novels from the late 90s. This new season mainly follows the middle book in the saga, The Subtle Knife. Filming was mostly finished prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the HBO series did not pull through unscathed. One of the final episodes was forced to be cut due to the quarantine, unfortunately resulting with star James McAvoy barely being in this season. Though the jam-packed cast featuring Dafne Keene, Clarke Peters, and Lin-Manuel Miranda still leaves plenty to enjoy.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special

This highly anticipated reunion comes just in time for Thanksgiving, giving viewers at home plenty of reasons to gather safely at home for the holiday. Much about the reunion is still under wraps, but fans can expect to see stars Will Smith, Alfonso Ribeiro, Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Joseph Marcell, and Daphne Maxwell Reid all together under that same iconic roof again. There will be no shortage of serotonin here.

The Flight Attendant

The Flight Attendant | Official Trailer | HBOMax

One of the most exciting HBO Max originals coming in November, The Flight Attendant will surely hits its mark. An everyday flight attendant wakes up one morning in the wrong hotel… with a dead stranger. Chaos ensues as she begins to unravel the larger mystery at hand. Cuoco brings her signature charm and wit, creating an all new type of comedic thriller with it. In addition to leading this show, Cuoco will also be curating a collection of her favorite titles available on the service.
