Disney+ is ramping up its exclusive offerings in March 2022 by a wide margin. The headliners this month are Moon Knight, Marvel Studios’ latest original series starring Oscar Isaac, and West Side Story, Steven Spielberg’s 7x Oscar-nominated film. The latter will surely bring a smile to those who could not make it out to the theater for this musical spectacle. Pop singer Olivia Rodrigo is also making sure her documentary, Olivia Rodrigo: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film), doesn’t go unnoticed as the Disney star will be giving fans an intimate road trip experience that will feature new live arrangements of her songs and exclusive footage on the making of her debut album SOUR.

Besides superheroes, big-name directors, and pop stars, Disney+ will be premiering yet another Pixar film in Turning Red. Domee Shi, most known for her Oscar-winning short Bao, makes Pixar history as the studio’s first female feature director to be solely credited. Telling a story that centers on Chinese heritage and growing pains, the voice cast of Turning Red is a step forward for more Asian representation with Sandra Oh, James Hong, and Wai Ching Ho being the veterans. Sticking with the family themes, Cheaper By The Dozen, Disney’s reboot of the 2003 film of the same name, is set to be released as well, boasting a celeb duo of Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff as the leading parents.

On top of these releases, all of Netflix’s Marvel shows, from Daredevil to The Punisher, will be moving to Disney+ in March 2022, forcing the service to add new parental controls. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is too included in this major switch, truly making this a month to remember for subscribers. Continue on for our monthly recs along with the full list of everything coming to Disney+ in March 2022. You can also find what’s about to arrive and depart from Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max right here on DiscussingFilm.

Our Recs:

West Side Story

Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" | Coming to Disney+ | Disney+

Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is set to leave a mark at this year’s Academy Awards, nominated for 7 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress. This timeless story of a forbidden romance between star-crossed lovers from two rival New York gangs with different ethnic backgrounds is revitalized with Spielberg’s one-of-a-kind touch. “And if this was only Spielberg’s first go at directing a musical, the world is not ready for his second… and probably never will be.” There’s plenty of time to stream West Side Story before the big Oscar night.

West Side Story hits Disney+ on March 2, 2022!

Turning Red

Turning Red | Official Trailer

Following the release of Luca, Pixar is back with Turning Red which follows Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl experiencing an unusual teenage awkwardness, transforming into a giant red panda when her emotions get the best of her. This coming-of-age tale of Chinese heritage is bound to leave an emotional impact as most Pixar entries do. “Faithfully bringing life to an underrepresented culture in the most honest way, Domee Shi has further pushed the boundaries of animated studio filmmaking – and that’s not to mention her place as Pixar’s first female feature director.” There’s loads to love here for animation fans.

Turning Red premieres on Disney+ March 11, 2022!

OLIVIA RODRIGO: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film)

OLIVIA RODRIGO: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film) | Teaser Trailer | Disney+

Pop Superstar Olivia Rodrigo has produced a documentary recounting the memories of writing and creating her debut album SOUR. Chronicling her road trip from Salt Lake City, her birthplace as an artist, to Los Angeles, she’ll be sharing her journey as a young woman not only navigating a specific time in her life but the modern music industry as a whole. Aspiring artists in need of some inspiration look no further. The film will also include new live arrangements of her songs in unique locales and never-before-seen footage from the behind-the-scenes of SOUR.

OLIVIA RODRIGO: driving home 2 u (a SOUR film) lands on Disney+ March 25, 2022!

Moon Knight

Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight | Official Trailer | Disney+

Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight follows Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant/Marc Spector who is struggling with dissociative identity disorder as he becomes involved in a deadly mystery that sees him obtaining the powers of an Egyptian moon god. As Steven, he is a mild-mannered gift-shop employee plagued with blackouts, but as Marc, he is a former U.S. Marine who finds out that his new powers are both a blessing and a curse to a life that already had its own shares of trouble. This will be the 6th series on Disney+ by Marvel Studios following Hawkeye and is expected to pave the way for other shows like She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel later this year.

Moon Knight debuts on Disney+ March 30, 2022!
