New Arrivals for Netflix January 2024

Netflix has packed tons of surprises for January 2024. Already in the new year, the streaming service has added fan favorites like the first three John Wick films, the original Jurassic Park trilogy, The Equalizer 3 starring Denzel Washington, and DC’s Aquaman. Moving on, ABBA connoisseurs and musical lovers can now enjoy both Mamma Mia! and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on Netflix, which makes the perfect double feature. Meanwhile, horror aficionados looking for a double feature of their own can now stream The Purge: Election Year and The First Purge back to back.

Some animated DreamWorks films just got added to Netflix in January 2024 as well, namely Antz, The Croods, and How to Train Your Dragon – which is getting a highly-anticipated live-action remake in 2025. Other must-see films Netflix subscribers should be putting on their queues in January 2024 include Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown – which many fans agree to be one of his very best movies – and Alfonso Cuarón’s 7x Oscar-winning sci-fi thriller, Gravity. A24’s The Florida Project, from writer-director Sean Baker, is also coming to Netflix on January 6 and features one of the most heartwarming performances from actor Willem Dafoe’s iconic career.

Additionally, those who recently enjoyed Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon should check out one of the filmmaker’s earlier hits, Dawn of the Dead, now that it’s streaming on Netflix too. On the note of Netflix originals, Society of the Snow, Lift, and Sixty Minutes are the most exciting original films of the month. Society of the Snow comes from director J. A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Impossible) and retells the tragic true story of the Uruguayan 1972 Andes flight disaster. It is also the Spanish entry for Best International Feature Film at the upcoming Academy Awards.

On the other hand, Lift is a heist comedy from director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, Friday). Kevin Hart, who acts as both producer and lead star, is joined by a hilarious ensemble, which includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, and Billy Magnussen. Sixty Minutes should satisfy subscribers craving a good old-fashioned action flick as audiences follow mixed martial artist Octavio (Emilio Sakraya) as he abandons an MMA match to race back home for his daughter’s birthday in order to keep custody of her. He just needs to punch through the bad guys who’ve placed bets on his fight and need him to stay in the ring.

The streamer’s original series selection in January 2024 has a lot to choose from too. The latest seasons of reality show hits like Queer Eye and Love on the Spectrum U.S. should keep viewers busy, along with the new addition of Love Is Blind: Sweden. Queer Eye Season 8, in particular, will see the Fab Five return to New Orleans while serving as Bobby Berk’s final season on the show.

The crime drama miniseries Griselda is another Netflix original to keep an eye out for. Sofia Vergara takes on the titular role of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian businesswoman who became one of the most notorious drug lords in history, nicknamed the Black Widow or Cocaine Godmother. Animations fans will want to dive into Masters of the Universe: Revolution, Kevin Smith’s sequel series to Master of the Universe: Revelation which pits He-Man (Chris Wood) and Skeletor (Mark Hamill) in a war between technology and magic.

Last but not least, all six seasons of the popular NBC drama series This Is Us are coming to Netflix on January 8. It wouldn’t be a shocker to see this show skyrocket in the platform’s streaming charts, similar to what happened recently with the USA Network legal drama series Suits resurging in popularity thanks to Netflix. Discover more on our monthly recommendations below and then check out the full list of everything getting added to Netflix in January 2024.
