Prime Video is treating subscribers to plenty of surprises in May 2024. At the beginning of the month, the streamer is debuting the Prime Video original film The Idea of You. Led by the one and only Anne Hathaway and rising star Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue, Bottoms), this new rom-com is based on the novel of the same name by Robinne Lee. The story centers around Solène Marchand (Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who strikes up an unlikely romance after reluctantly taking her teenage daughter to Coachella. Her new love interest isn’t just anybody, though — it’s 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the lead singer of the famous boy band August Moon. Full of tons of spicey twists and turns, The Idea of You is a must-watch on Prime Video in May 2024.
Outer Range Season 2 will also be coming to the Prime Video streaming service in May 2024. The Prime Video original series stars Josh Brolin (Dune: Part Two) as Royal Abbott, a Wyoming rancher who fights to keep his family together after discovering a mysterious black void on his land. This bottomless cosmic hole has connections to the future, past, and present, which push this small Wyoming community to the edge of the universe. With its neo-Western backdrop and sci-fi extravagant plot, Outer Range blends multiple genres to become one of the most unique TV shows that can be found on streaming today.
Prime Video subscribers looking for other kinds of entertainment should seek out the Amazon original reality competition series The GOAT. Hosted by comedian Daniel Tosh, The GOAT will bring together 14 reality superstars from across television (including Bachelors, Housewives, and Food Network personalities) to compete for the title of reality TV’s “Greatest of all time.” The 1% Club is another competition series debuting on the Prime Video streaming platform in May 2024. A U.S. adaptation of the hit British quiz show of the same name, The 1% Club is hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt and will “test the nation’s intelligence, based on a scientific survey.” The cunning winners of this game show will be known as the 1% club, which is described as “an elite group of people who can honestly say they’ve outwitted 99% of the population.”
Other Prime Video originals to look out for in May 2024 include season 3 of Stephen Merchant’s comedic thriller series, The Outlaws, and The Blue Angels documentary which follows the newest class of the famous Navy and Marine Corps flight squadron of the same name. A large number of older and classic films just got added to Prime Video at the beginning of May 2024 too. Horror fans can now dive into six movies of the iconic Hellraiser franchise. Plus, Ti West and Mia Goth’s Pearl is still coming to the streamer later in May, which makes it time for a re-watch before its sequel, MaXXXine, hits theaters in July. On a similar note, those who recently enjoyed Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers in theaters can now stream one of his earlier films, Call Me by Your Name starring Timothée Chalamet, on Prime Video this month.
Ryan Coogler’s Creed, Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman, George Clooney’s The Boys in the Boat, and Cord Jefferson’s recent Oscar-winner American Fiction are all getting added to Prime Video later in May 2024 as well. In the meantime, people can enjoy other new arrivals like Steven Speilberg’s Schindler’s List and A.I. Artificial Intelligence, David Fincher’s Panic Room and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash.
