D23 Expo 2024: Every New Marvel, Star Wars, & Disney Reveal

The 2024 D23 Expo is ramping up to be an exciting presentation, as The Walt Disney Company has plenty of announcements coming from almost every major studio under its banner. The Marvel Studios side of things already had plenty of excitement from San Diego Comic-Con 2024 this past month. There will undoubtedly be plenty of new developments for the Disney+ side of projects, such as the upcoming Agatha and All Along, as well as Iron Heart and Daredevil: Born Again.

There is also expected to be news of Walt Disney Studios’ latest live-action films and animation projects, with highly anticipated sequels such as Frozen III and the upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White expected to be part of the presentation. We’re expecting a large focus on new Disney+ projects, along with updates to recently announced 2025 & 2026 films.

Below are all the updates for the Walt Disney Studios D23 2024 Presentation. In addition to all the major announcements, the DiscussingFilm team is in attendance and can provide exclusive footage descriptions straight from the presentation itself.

Avatar: Fire and Ash

The new logo for the upcoming film Avatar: Fire and Ash as shown at D23 2024

James Cameron took the stage at D23 to discuss the Avatar film series. The acclaimed director stated that the films are “going into really challenging territory for all the characters that you know and love.” Concept art and the title for the third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, were also shared with audiences. Walt Disney Studios

Monster Jam

Dwayne Johnson took the stage to discuss Moana 2 but also included details about a new live-action movie titled Monster Jam. Not much is known about the project other than that it will be about Monster Trucks and the culture surrounding the vehicles.

Mufasa: The Lion King

Mufasa: The Lion King | Official Trailer

Lin Manuel Miranda arrived at the D23 2024 expo to represent Mufasa: The Lion King and a brand new trailer for the film debuted both at the expo and online. You can check out the new trailer for the upcoming Disney film above.

Snow White

Disney’s Snow White | Teaser Trailer | In Theaters March 21

Before the trailer for Snow White premieres online and in-person at D23 2024, an exclusive clip was shown to the audience. The clip begins with Rachel Zegler as Snow White, she addresses each dwarf one by one, and passes one of them a broom. After this, Snow White begins to sing the “Whistle while you work” song from the original film, only it is a more modern rendition of the song, and done at a faster tempo. The dwarves help to clean, and woodland animals, such as a woodpecker, also enter the cottage to help Snow White finish cleaning before they all sit together at a dining table. Tron: Ares

Jared Leto's character Ares in the upcoming Disney Film Tron: Ares

D23 attendees were treated to an exclusive look at the upcoming film Tron: Ares, with Jared Leto arriving in person to talk about the film and his character. Leto plays Ares, who he describes as an evil artificial intelligence. The film will also feature the characters leaving the digital world and entering the real one. Along with the new footage, it was announced that Nine Inch Nails would be making the music for the film.

The footage begins with Evan Peters talking about Artificial Intelligence and the leap that it would be making into the physical world. The trailer then transitions into snowy terrain before showing Jared Leto’s character, Ares, narrating about finding his purpose as he explores the real world. The trailer then shows light cycles driving across a city, and the trailer ends with Ares throwing a disc and a first look at Jeff Bridge’s character on a purple grid, saying, “Greetings, bookworm.”

The Lilo & Stich live-action film was given a brief spotlight at the D23 2024 expo, mainly to highlight a look at the live-action version of Stitch. The reveal also came with the announcement that the film would be headed to theaters instead of the previously announced Disney+ streaming debut. Captain America: Brave New World

Captain America: Brave New World was briefly discussed at D23, and the same footage that was shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was shown to attendees at D23. A scene featuring new President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) directly talking about the celestial that came out of the Earth at the end of The Eternals and the production of Adamantium. Sam Wilson is shown with Joaquin, in his Falcon suit as they are flying together. The footage ends with President Ross becoming the Red Hulk at a podium in front of the White House. The Red Hulk’s face looks exactly like Ford’s, only with yellow eyes and black hair.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The Fantastic Four: First Steps footage shown at D23 is the same footage from San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

The footage, filmed in a 4:3 aspect ratio, looks like it is playing on a retro television. It starts with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) teaching a classroom, asking if they want to see an explosion. The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) is seen on the retro dating show The Dating Game, but only as a silhouette. The footage ends with the team in astronaut suits, with the last names of the characters on the suits, as they enter a retro-futuristic-looking rocket before the ship takes off, and the aspect ratio of the footage changes. The footage ends with Galactus’ face behind a building; part of his face is seen through the building, and it’s clear he has a comic-accurate look.

The cast of Agatha All Along appeared on stage at D23 2024 to discuss the new series and showcase a brand-new trailer. Agatha All Along will premiere on Disney+ on September 18, 2024, with a two-episode premiere. The nine-episode series will undoubtedly be a darker take on the sorcery and magic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Iron Heart

Ryan Coogler and the cast of Iron Heart arrived on stage to talk about Iron Heart, as well as show footage from the series. The Iron Heart trailer begins with Riri flying through the sky in her suit. The footage also shows Riri’s life at MIT after the events of Wakanda Forever, as she seems stuck and desperate to rebuild her suit. As she tries to find the cash to fund her project, she teams up with Anthony Ramos’ character to sneak into various warehouses and labs to find the resources necessary. Ramos’ character ends up turning evil and is shown in a suit and a red cape. The last shot of the trailer shows the suit flying to Riri and her suiting up in visuals reminiscent of the Iron Man movies as she flips a truck in the street, and the trailer ends.

Daredevil: Born Again

The cast of Daredevil: Born Again arrived on stage at D23 to discuss the series, which they describe as being kept in a similar tone to the Netflix series. Graffiti art of both Daredevil and Kingpin was displayed before exclusive footage of the series was shown. The teaser begins with Matt Murdock visiting White Tiger in prison, and a brief glimpse of a comic-accurate White Tiger costume is shown. The character tells Matt that “we need a hero” since the Kingpin is rising in power and influence in New York.

The footage also shows Frank Castle the Punisher confronting Matt Murdock and various short snippets of action footage, with Matt seemingly overwhelmed by Fisk’s grab for power through mayoral candidacy. The footage ends with Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk talking in a diner, with Fisk asking Murdock if the warning about Fisk’s rise to power is coming from Matt or his “darker half.” The tense scene then cuts away to two fight sequences intercut as one, with Matt fighting someone in civilian clothes and in his Daredevil costume. After the vicious fight ends, a character asks what kind of Lawyer Matt is before he simply answers with “A really good one.”

The Star Wars panel at D23 2024 started with Jude Law getting on stage to talk about the upcoming Disney+ series Skeleton Crew. Jude Law explained how the series is inspired by films such as Goonies and E.T. Diego Luna took over the stage after the Skeleton Crew showcase to talk about Andor season 2. Concept art for the series was shown as Diego Luna talked about how the character of Cassian Andor has been with him for 10 years now. After that, a sizzle reel was shown for the second season, featuring the return of characters from Rogue One, such as Ben Mendhelson’s Krennic and Alan Tudyk doing motion capture work as K2-SO. The second season will be taking place over four years leading up to the events of Rogue One.

Mandalorian & Grogu

Concept art for the upcoming Star Wars film The Mandalorian and Grogu

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni went on stage to talk about the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu film. Favreau let fans at D23 know that they had just started filming a few weeks ago. A sizzle reel for the film was shown, revealing a scene where Mandalorian is infiltrating a base full of Snow Troopers. The planet the scene takes place in could possibly be Hoth, with Mando going downhill on ahuge snowy mountain piloting a Small Walker with Grogu on his lap. They eventually come into contact with 2 AT-AT Walkers as they start shooting at the Mandalorian. The trailer also shows Zebb from Star Wars Rebels as he wishes Mando “good luck” before leaving on a mission. The footage ends with Babu Frik at the end with Grogu.

Dream Productions

Pixar started its presentation at D23 2024 with details on its upcoming Disney+ Inside Out spin-off series, Dream Productions. The series is set between the events of Inside Out and Inside Out 2 and will be streaming in 2025. It will focus on how dreams are made, something that was briefly shown in Inside Out 2.

Win or Lose

Win or Lose | Available December 6 on Disney+

Before Dream Productions drops on Disney+, Pixar is going to release its first long-form series, Win or Lose. Focusing on eight different characters as they prepare for a championship softball game. Each episode focuses on a different character’s perspective, and the incredibly emotive animation style will use each of these different points of view to the fullest. Hopper

The logo for the new Disney and Pixar film Hoppers, announced at D23 2024

A new Disney and Pixar original film, titled Hoppers, is currently in development and was announced at D23. The main character of the film is a girl named Mabel who transfers her mind into a robot beaver, the titular “Hoppers,” which allows her to infiltrate the animal kingdom in the film. It’s there that she meets a regal king beaver. Mabel’s love for animals is what allows her to jump into the robot beaver’s body without hesitation. Elio

Concept art for the Disney and Pixar film Elio as shown at D23 2024 Expo

Elio, a film that had a troubled start at Pixar two years back, has found new life, as it was announced at the D23 2024 expo that new directors had boarded the project. The footage shown at D23 focuses on Elio, who is mistaken as an ambassador for Earth; it’s in this situation that he must learn to form new connections with Alien life forms. What’s more, Zoe Saldana has been announced as playing Elio’s Aunt, a role that was originally played by America Ferrera before the role had to be recast due to scheduling issues.

Moana 2

Moana 2 | Official Trailer

The Moana 2 segment of the D23 2024 Presentation started with live Polynesian dancers, and the film’s stars (Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson) arrived on stage to perform a song from the film. New details were shared about the sequel, with Moana now being the Chief Leader and having a 3-year-old sister. Moreover, the trailer was shown both at the event and online, and you can view it above.

Zootopia 2

The Walt Disney Animation panel started with the long-awaited sequel to Zootopia. Reptiles are said to be the focus of Zootopia 2, and they have a shady past in Zootopia. A new character, a snake named Gary, will be voiced by Ke Huy Quan. Fans were shown an exclusive clip at D23, which began at a Boardwalk. The clip showcases an entire hippo community, along with beavers and sea lions. The main characters from the first film, Nick (Jason Bateman) and Jusy (Ginnifer Goodwin), are shown around the new locale. A sea lion is introduced to the duo as they are told that “these sea creatures need to be treated with respect.” The beaver and sea lion share a comedic back-and-forth before the clip ends.

Frozen III

Producer Jennifer Lee took to the stage at D23 to talk about the upcoming third installment of the Frozen series. Lee would talk about the story of the films, saying that “there were a lot of questions coming out of Frozen 2…it will take two films to answer them.” Moreover, with Lee implying that a fourth Frozen film is inevitable, there is sure to be even more world-building in the third film, with concept art depicting Anna and Elsa riding on horseback toward what looks to be a floating city of some sort.
