Netflix has by far the most exciting slate from all the major streamers going into January 2025. Out of the new arrivals this month, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl jumps out first. The latest from legendary U.K. animation studio Aardman, Vengeance Most Fowl is only the second Wallace & Gromit feature-length adventure after 2005’s The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, but is actually a sequel to the iconic 1993 short The Wrong Trousers. The villainous silent penguin Feathers McGraw returns with a sinister plan for revenge against the titular claymation duo. Moreover, Vengeance Most Fowl boasts a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it a special event for families when it hits Netflix on January 3, 2025.
The second big movie premiere that must be talked about features the grand comeback of actress Cameron Diaz. The hotly anticipated Netflix original film Back in Action re-unites Diaz, who is stepping out of acting retirement specifically for this project, with her Annie co-star Jamie Foxx. Funny enough, the story sees their former CIA spy characters coming out of their own retirement when their secret identities are blown. As the title suggests, the film promises plenty of action and comedy, and perhaps a little romance too. For Diaz’s long-awaited comeback alone, Back in Action will be worth the hype when the Netflix movie debuts on January 17, 2025.
The next spotlight of January 2025 goes to the Netflix original series Missing You. Based on the novel by Harlan Coben, Missing You centers on Detective Inspector Kat Donavan (Rosalind Eleazar) after she shockingly finds her thought-to-be missing fiance, Clint Donovan (Lenny Henry), on a dating app. Co-starring Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy), Missing You has all the twists and turns that one could want from a thriller. To stay on British programming, Cunk on Life is now available to stream, too. The mockumentary follows fan-favorite fictional documentarian Philomena Cunk (Diane Morgan) as she ponders life’s greatest philosophical questions in a deadpan manner. Fans of the previous Cunk on Earth comedy series will be overjoyed with this feature-length follow-up.
In the miniseries department, the streaming giant will add the new six-episode limited series American Primeval on January 9, 2025. Directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor) and written by Mark L. Smith (Twisters, The Revenant), American Primeval tells the sprawling story of how the American West was won, examining different factions of religion and culture as they brutally clash over dominance. If that premise doesn’t have Netflix subscribers hooked, then its star-studded cast, featuring Taylor Kitsch, Dane DeHaan, Jai Courtney, and Shea Wingham, will do the trick. Filled with visceral action and excellent period-accurate production design, American Primeval will be an immediate binge for those in the mood for a good old-fashioned Western.
Many subscribers are heavily anticipating The Night Agent Season 2 as well, which arrives on January 23, 2025. The espionage thriller series, based on the novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk, is set to plunge its daring lead, former FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), and his love interest, former Silicon Valley CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), into a whole new world of government conspiracies and global threats. After successfully saving the President of the United States in the first season, Peter is promoted to a top-secret organization called Night Action. Seeing how The Night Agent Season 3 has already been confirmed, it’s safe to say this promotion will come with a hefty load of dangerous missions.
It must be mentioned that Netflix is getting a double dose of Noah Centineo this month. The first is in XO, Kitty Season 2, releasing on January 16, 2025. A spin-off series from the To All the Boys trilogy, XO, Kitty follows Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) — the younger sister of Lana Condor‘s film protagonist Lara Jean — as she pursues her own love story studying abroad at the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS). Part rom-com and part K-drama, XO, Kitty is bringing back Lara Jean’s charming boyfriend, Peter Kavinsky (Centineo), for this second season, making for a heart-warming reunion with Kitty. Lara has yet to appear in this Netflix show, but Lana Condor has publicly expressed interest!
Noah Centineo will then grace Netflix screens again on January 30, 2025 in The Recruit Season 2. The spy thriller show sees the actor take on the role of CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks. In this latest season, he’s joined by Past Lives star Teo Yoo for a life-threatening mission in South Korea. Also arriving on January 30 is Mo Season 2. Mo is the semi-autobiographical project of comedian Mo Amer, who uses the series to chronicle his experiences as a Palestinian refugee living in the increasingly diverse culture of Houston, Texas. Praised for its true-to-life, representational nature, Mo has earned a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes — high praise that is likely to continue when the second season drops.
To begin wrapping things up, the Netflix streaming platform has struck a new deal with the WWE to bring Monday Night RAW to viewers live, and this partnership is kicking off on January 6, 2025. Other than that, Netflix is, of course, bringing tons of older classics to its revolving streaming library this month. The Rush Hour trilogy will be there for fans of action comedies. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, some of the most acclaimed superhero films of all time, will also debut at the top of January 2025. That’s not to mention the nostalgia of revisiting those or the two theatrical live-action Scooby-Doo movies.
Last but not least, Christopher Nolan’s Inception and Interstellar just got added back to Netflix this January. This is perfect timing for cinephiles who are over the moon about his upcoming adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026.
