New Arrivals for Netflix August 2025

The Netflix August 2025 list of new arrivals is as jam-packed as ever. Finally, Wednesday Season 2 is releasing its first four episodes (as Part 1) on August 6. Spearheaded by beloved filmmaker Tim Burton, the Netflix original series is a modern spin on The Addams Family, where teenager Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) gets into supernatural hijinks at the chaotic Nevermore Academy. The second season of the Netflix show sees Wednesday continue to hone her psychic abilities as she uncovers more of her family’s secret lore. Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán), Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones), and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) return alongside Wednesday’s former romantic interest, Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), and her colorful werewolf roommate, Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers).

For all the rom-com diehards, the Netflix streaming platform continues to be the go-to source for the genre. Case in point: My Oxford Year. Based on the novel by Julia Whelan, the Netflix original film follows American student Anna De La Vega (Sofia Carson, best known from Disney’s Descendants series) as she pursues her dreams at the prestigious University of Oxford in England. Her plans are thrown when she falls in love with charming local teacher’s assistant Jamie, played by Corey Mylchreest, who Netflix subscribers will recognize from Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Having just been added on August 1, My Oxford Year seems like the perfect Netflix movie for couples looking to escape the summer heat together.

Now here’s a fun one: Fixed, the R-rated adult animated comedy from the legendary Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Primal) is finally getting released! The Netflix film, which spent years languishing in development hell, is a 2D animated affair that follows the good-natured dog Bull (voiced by Adam DeVine) as he discovers that he’s getting neutered tomorrow. What does he do? He decides to make the next 24 hours the best of his life, partying as much as possible. Featuring the voice work of Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Fred Armisen, and more, Fixed faces the stigma of being a raunchy animated movie for adults. Still, if anyone can do it, it’s Genndy Tartakovsky. Fixed hits Netflix on August 13, 2025.

Another notable Netflix original film to look out for this month is Night Always Comes. Starring The Fantastic Four: First Steps standout Vanessa Kirby, the noir-thriller centers on Lynette, a desperate woman who will move heaven and Earth to secure the money needed to buy the house she’s renting for herself, her mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and her disabled brother (Zack Gottsagen) in the Pacific Northwest. If that wasn’t enough to pique your interest, the supporting cast, which includes Julia Fox, Stephan James, Randall Park, and horror director Eli Roth of all people, certainly will. Night Always Comes makes its Netflix premiere on August 15, 2025.

There are a couple more prominent originals that bear mentioning. The first is Bojack Horseman creator Ralph Bob-Waksberg’s new animated series Long Story Short, launching on August 22. The show unravels the shared history, inside jokes, and old wounds of one dysfunctional family across multiple years. Moreover, it has already been renewed for a second season, and along with Fixed marks an exciting return for adult animation on the streamer. Next up is The Thursday Murder Club, where three amateur sleuths of different backgrounds (played by Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Ben Kingsley) hilariously attempt to solve a murder. The movie will have a limited theatrical release on August 22 before making its Netflix streaming debut on August 28.

To wrap things up, Netflix’s streaming library is adding plenty of classic films and recent favorites in August 2025. This month’s streaming recommendations include the entire Rush Hour trilogy, starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, as well as the original Jurassic Park trilogy. In the mood for timeless comedies? One can never go wrong with the first two American Pie movies. For more family-friendly options, the first two Despicable Me films are also now available to stream. Perhaps the biggest get, however, is the first seven Fast & Furious movies, which begin streaming on August 16, 2025.
