Founded in 2019, the DiscussingFilm Critic Awards (DFCA) is our very own celebration of the year’s most worthy and impactful films. The DFCA voting body consists of a diverse range of established film critics, awards pundits, and influential voices from around the globe. The nominations for the 2024 DiscussingFilm Critic Awards are finally here thanks to this dedicated voting group, which now includes bold voices from right here at DiscussingFilm and major outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, The Wrap, and many more. Follow along in the official nomination announcement of what is now our 5th annual edition of the ceremony.

The top winners of our 4th Annual DiscussingFilm Critic Awards were led by Everything Everywhere All at Once which dominated with 7 wins, earning half of its 14 total nominations. This included Best Picture, Best Director for the Daniels, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Supporting Actress for Stephanie Hsu. Coming in second was a close tie between Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Jordan Peele’s Nope with 3 wins a piece.

Other notable winners from the 2023 DiscussingFilm Critic Awards included Decision to Leave for Best International Feature and Aftersun for Best Debut Feature. Hollywood blockbusters saw some success last year as Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and The Batman won a category each. It was quite the spread of winners, which we hope continues with the next edition of the awards. The winners of the 2024 DiscussingFilm Critics Awards will be announced on January 6.

Now, leading the pack at the 5th Annual DiscussingFilm Critic Awards is Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer with 14 nominations, followed by the Emma Stone-starring and Yorgos Lanthimos-directed Poor Things with a total of 13 nominations. Coming just behind with 11 nominations is Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which is then followed by Greta Gerwig’s Barbie with an impressive 10 nominations. Other notable nominations this year include Godzilla Minus One in Best International Feature, The Zone of Interest in both Best Picture and Best International Feature, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in both Best Picture and Best Animated Feature, and Past Lives in both Best Picture and Best Debut Feature.
