Netflix is bringing the heat in June 2024, just as the summer season begins to peak. The streamer’s hottest June 2024 arrivals include Hit Man, the latest from prolific filmmaker Richard Linklater (School of Rock, Boyhood), and Part 2 of Bridgerton Season 3. The Netflix original film Hit Man lit up the festival circuit, enjoyed a limited theatrical release, and is now coming home to the streaming giant that backed it. Based on journalist Skip Hollandsworth’s 2001 Texas Monthly magazine article of the same name, the crowd-pleaser follows Gary Johnson (Glen Powell), a New Orleans college professor who works as a part-time informant for the police, disguising himself as a variety of contract killers to bust those who try to solicit his services. Things get complicated for Gary when he falls in love with one of his targets, Maddy Masters (Adria Arjona).
Lauded for its mixture of comedy, romance, and thriller elements, thanks to its script written by Glen Powell himself and director Richard Linklater, audiences can finally see what all the Hit Man buzz is about when it comes to Netflix on June 7, 2024. Speaking of buzz, the streaming service is also debuting the second part of the third season of Bridgerton on June 13, 2024. These remaining four episodes follow the cliffhanger from Part 1 where Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) confessed his love to Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) in a steamy carriage ride. Colin is oblivious to the fact that Penelope has been secretly acting as the notorious gossip columnist “Lady Whistledown,” which could quickly end their newfound love. There are a lot of balls in the air for the beloved streaming series based on Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels, including a much-discussed “mirror scene” teased to be adapted.
Bridgerton Season 4 is already in the works too, making it the perfect time to binge all the latest episodes of Netflix’s prestigious Regency Era romance series. Another Netflix show with a substantial fanbase, Sweet Tooth, based on the comic series of the same name by Jeff Lemire under DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, will premiere its third and final season on the streaming platform in June 2024. The story, set in a world ravaged by a pandemic, follows human-deer hybrid boy Gus (Christian Convey) and his companion Jepperd (Nonso Anozie) on a journey through the ruined world. Series creator Jim Mickle is confident that Sweet Tooth Season 3 will bring Netflix subscribers a satisfying conclusion. Sweet Tooth‘s blend of levity and tension will surely be missed when it concludes on Netflix on June 6, 2024.
For fans of the Ultraman franchise, Netflix will be adding a brand-new animated streaming film called Ultraman: Rising on June 14, 2024. This iteration of the legendary Japanese Kyodai Hero centers around baseball star Ken Sato (Christopher Sean), who secretly moonlights as superhero Ultraman. As Tokyo comes under siege from kaiju attacks, Ultraman’s ongoing struggle becomes even more complicated when he is forced to adopt a baby kaiju who stands at a whopping 35 feet tall. A Japanese-American co-production between Netflix Animation and Tsuburaya Productions, Ultraman: Rising features gorgeous 3D animation from Industrial Light & Magic. Co-writer and director Shannon Tindle (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Lost Ollie) adapts the iconic character for today’s younger generation, so this may be the perfect thing to put on for the kids at home when it hits the streamer on June 14, 2024.
Finally, That ‘90s Show is getting a new season that is being split into two parts. Part 2 arrives on Netflix on June 27, 2024 and That ‘90s Show: Part 3 follows on October 24, each consisting of 8 episodes. That ‘90s Show: Part 2 sees its teenage protagonist, Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), excited to reunite with her love interest, Jay Kelso (Mace Coronel), after 9 months apart. However, there’s drama brewing in this streaming show as Leia has not told Jay that she almost kissed the popular Nate Runck (Maxwell Acee Donovan), a shocking truth that he hasn’t even told his own girlfriend Nikki (Sam Morelos). Moreover, this Netflix original series will continue to be influenced by its predecessor, That ‘70s Show, as Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp once again reprise their famous roles as Leia’s grandparents Red and Kitty Forman, respectively.
To begin wrapping up with non-original additions, there are plenty of other fan favorites that will keep Netflix subscribers satisfied in June 2024. Director Jon M. Chu’s cultural phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians is getting added to the streaming service on June 6, 2024, meaning viewers can swoon over Constance Wu and Henry Golding’s chemistry all over again or simply admire Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh’s cunning performance. Todd Haynes’ Carol, which garnered serious awards attention for stars Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett, is also returning to Netflix on June 17, 2024 — a nice cross-promotion considering last year’s release of Haynes’ Netflix movie May December. Meanwhile, Charlotte Wells’ heartbreaking directorial debut and the movie that made Paul Mescal a star, Aftersun, will be available to stream on Netflix beginning on June 21, 2024. Fans of Mescal or the A24 brand as a whole won’t want to ignore this one.
Netflix surprised subscribers all over the world this week by suddenly announcing the streaming premiere of the Oscar-winning film Godzilla Minus One. Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus One greatly captivated audiences last year and broke many box office records, including earning the title of the highest-grossing Godzilla movie of all time. Its long-awaited streaming debut is fantastic news for millions of fans across the globe. Last but not least, all 9 original seasons of CBS’ cherished sitcom How I Met Your Mother are coming to Netflix on June 3, 2024. This will be followed by all 8 original seasons of Showtime’s twisted crime series Dexter arriving on June 19, 2024.
