New Arrivals for Prime Video and Freevee September 2024

September 2024 is looking to be a light month for the Prime Video streaming service and its free ad-supported channel, Freevee. Outside of one highly anticipated finale to an Amazon series and the premiere of one star-studded original film, the streamer is mostly relying on a fresh batch of classic movies and shows to keep subscribers satisfied this month. This back catalog is getting a major boost with too many familiar favorites to count. But going back to those few Amazon originals, they’re nothing to overlook, either. So, without further ado, let’s dive into everything coming to Prime Video and Freevee in September 2024.

The first prominent Prime Video addition of September 2024 marks the end of an era for The Grand Tour, the fan-favorite successor to BBC’s Top Gear. The Prime Video original series says goodbye to its famed trio of hosts with an Amazon film titled The Grand Tour: One for the Road. A never-before-seen adventure for Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May lies ahead as they embark on a road trip across Zimbabwe in three of their ultimate dream cars: a 1982 Lancia Montecarlo, a 1974 Ford Capri 3-litre and a 1974 Triumph Stag. All of the sightseeing, cultural explorations, and vehicular mayhem that audiences have come to expect from the renowned British trio will be on full display in an emotional final goodbye. The Grand Tour: One for the Road finishes the ride on September 13, 2024.

Prime Video subscribers should have The Money Game on their radars when it premieres on September 10, 2024. The Amazon original docuseries follows the athletes of LSU. However, there’s a twist. The streaming series is set in the wake of new NCAA rules that allow student athletes to profit off their own name, image, and likeness (NIL) as well as take endorsement deals. What The Money Game takes aim at, specifically, is how the internal politics of college sports have drastically changed with these new rules, getting the perspective of viral, big-name athletes like Livvy Dunne, Angel Reese (aka the Bayou Barbie), and Jayden Daniels. If this first six-part season is successful, expect the streaming platform to renew The Money Game, with the door open for future seasons to be set at other popular universities.

Sports fanatics will want to keep an eye out for another Amazon show this month: Evolution of the Black Quarterback. Hosted by former football star Michael Vick, the eight-part docuseries takes Prime Video subscribers across the history of the NFL to see how black quarterbacks have constantly overcome all odds to reach greatness. New interviews with active quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys will be featured in the docuseries. To cap off the Amazon originals, the crime drama Killer Heat will debut on September 26, 2024. The Prime Video original film is based on the short story The Jealousy Man by Jo Nesbø. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a damaged detective who is sent to a remote Greek island to investigate a dangerous love triangle. Shailene Woodley and Richard Madden also star in the Amazon movie.

Outside of those Amazon originals, Prime Video has already added several prominent movies to its streaming library this month. The first to take note of is The American Society of Magical Negroes, starring Justice Smith and comedy legend David Alan Grier. The topical and satirical indie comedy had much anticipation before its 2024 Sundance premiere, which mostly petered out due to a divisive reception from critics. The streaming giant is now giving it the opportunity to be seen by a much wider audience so they can get their two cents in and shake up the conversation. Another recent indie release that just made its streaming debut is Snack Shack, a summer coming-of-age comedy starring The Fabelmans standout Gabriel LaBelle — who’s also about to star in the SNL biographical film Saturday Night. Snack Shack has quietly built up a positive word-of-mouth that could explode now that it’s streaming on Prime Video.

To round out the list of what Prime Video and Freevee have to offer in September 2024, two modern classics of family cinema, Puss in the Boots: The Last Wish and Paddington 2, hit streaming on the 12th and 16th, respectively. Speaking of modern classics, Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!! comes to Prime Video on September 15, 2024. For those moviegoers who recently saw Hit Man or Twisters and still have Glen Powell fever, Everybody Wants Some!! is a must-see from the actor’s collaborations with Linklater. Other beloved films that just arrived on Prime Video this month include Dredd, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Saturday Night Fever, V for Vendetta, Galaxy Quest, and Army of Darkness.
