Disney+ and Hulu will be your go-to streaming services in January 2025. Disney Bundle subscribers with access to both streamers can start the new year strong with a litany of exciting arrivals. The first is Goosebumps: The Vanishing, premiering all episodes on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2025. The second season of the Goosebumps revival series embraces the anthology format, telling a standalone story based on R.L. Stine‘s famous children’s horror books. Bringing on Friends alum David Schwimmer, The Vanishing revolves around fraternal twins Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece (Jayden Bartels) who, along with their recently divorced dad Anthony (Schwimmer), discover a secret about their home that ties into the mysterious 1994 vanishing of five teenagers.
The most anticipated Disney+ original series in January 2025 is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The animated Disney+ show utilizes a 3D cel-shaded animation style that acts as a “throwback” to classic The Amazing Spider-Man comics. Taking place in an alternative timeline where a young Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) looks up to Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) as his mentor in his early days of crime-fighting instead of Tony Stark/Iron Man, it’s hard to deny such a fascinating hook. Furthermore, it’s interesting to see this adaptation embrace other MCU elements, like having Charlie Cox reprise his role as Matthew Murdock/Daredevil. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is guaranteed to spark fan conversations when it debuts its first two episodes on January 29, 2025.
Moving on, the Hulu original series Paradise is not to be missed. Following disgraced secret service agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), Paradise goes back and forth between the past and present as he’s forced to take a polygraph test and is questioned about the mysterious death of fictional former President Cal Bradford (James Marsden). Dan Fogelman, best known for creating the beloved NBC drama series This is Us, reunites with actor Sterling K. Brown here, but this thriller is shaping up to be a huge departure from their regular repertoire of work. The captivating mystery around Paradise will be hard for Hulu subscribers to resist when it hits the streaming giant on January 28, 2025.
Hulu is getting arguably one of the most enticing recent true crime projects in January 2025. Scamanda, based on the podcast of the same name, documents the real-life story of Amanda Riley, whose detailed blog about her struggles with stage 3 blood cancer drew sympathy from people across the nation. However, she had lied about the whole thing, deceiving even the closest friends and family around her. The docu-miniseries will go into the mechanics of the scam while also detailing how Amanda got caught. Scamanda seems like it will be everyone’s new true crime obsession when it lands on the Hulu streaming service on January 31, 2025.
Of course, one of Hulu’s main benefits is that it allows for the possibility of next-day premieres on the platform from cable TV. Some of the notable series premieres happening on television include the Fox medical drama Doc, starring Molly Parker, on January 8, 2025, and the Fox comedy series Going Dutch, starring Denis Leary, on January 3, 2025. Meanwhile, returning shows this month include Animal Control Season 3, debuting on January 3, 2025, and Will Trent Season 3 and The Rookie Season 7, both launching on January 8, 2025.
Outside of originals, Hulu is adding a ton of great repertory films to its streaming library in January 2025. The first three Insidious movies will provide all manner of scares and ambitious lore-building for horror fans. Next up, the first three action-packed John Wick films come with perfect timing, given Keanu Reeves’ recent popular turn as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The two Paul Blart: Mall Cop films are a safe bet for families looking for belly laughs, too. Lastly, Hulu subscribers will have fresh access to plenty of genre-defining hits, like Michael Mann’s Heat, Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, Boots Riley’s Sorry To Bother, and Ben Affleck’s The Town, all of which arrive on January 1, 2025.
