The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards have celebrated the jam-packed year of television from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026. As such, the 2026 Emmys were just as competitive as ever. The HBO original DTF St. Louis took home the Emmy for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Series creator Steven Conrad won for Directing and Writing in a Limited or Anthology Series, and stars David Harbour and Linda Cardellini won in the Supporting Actor categories as well. In the Emmys 2026 drama categories, HBO Max’s The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, and actor Noah Wyle earned a back-to-back year repeat win for Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Acclaimed drama series like Pluribus, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, and Task also did not walk away empty-handed at the 2026 Emmys. Pluribus creator Vince Gilligan took home his first “individual” Emmy for Writing in a Drama Series (he previously won twice as an executive producer for Breaking Bad). Plus, Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn finally won her first Primetime Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, after being snubbed for Better Call Saul. Moving on to comedy, HBO Max’s Hacks earned one last Emmy for its final season. The iconic Jean Smart won her eighth Primetime Emmy Award, setting a new record by winning Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for all 5 seasons of her show.
The new fan-favorite Apple TV series Widow’s Bay walked away as the biggest winner from the 2026 Emmys. The show won 14 Emmys total this year, the most wins ever for a single season of a comedy series. Among its many wins, including Best Comedy Series, lead star Matthew Rhys broke another record. Rhys is now the first actor in history to win 2 leading acting Emmys in the same year, one for Widow’s Bay and the other for The Beast in Me in the Limited or Anthology Series category.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards aired live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, on NBC and Peacock. It was hosted by Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay ― the first female Emmys host in 15 years.
