The HBO Max October 2026 list of new arrivals is packing a big surprise for the Halloween season. Horror fans, especially, will want to jump on HBO Max this month for the streaming premiere of Evil Dead Burn (2026). The latest bleak installment in the Evil Dead franchise, created by Sam Raimi, is another self-contained spin-off, just like 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. Audiences follow recent widow Alice (Souhelia Yacoub) as she attends the funeral of her abusive husband, only for her in-laws to become possessed by Deadites unleashed by the Book of the Dead. HBO Max subscribers will be treated to bloody mayhem and mutilation when Evil Dead Burn debuts on October 2.
One HBO original series of sorts worth noting right off the bat is the British legal drama War, from creator George Kay (Lupin, Hijack). A co-production between HBO and Sky Television, the show centers on two elite London law firms, Cathcarts and Taylor & Byrne. Their intense rivalry comes to a head when both firms become involved in the scandalous divorce between a prominent tech entrepreneur (Dominic West) and his superstar wife (Sienna Miller). Already renewed for a second season, the inaugural installment of War kicks off on HBO Max on October 1, with new episodes rolling out weekly on Thursdays.
Two recent notable A24 films are coming to HBO Max in October 2026, starting with The Death of Robin Hood. From writer-director Michael Sarnoski, best known for Pig (2021) and A Quiet Place: Day One (2024), comes a new take on the Robin Hood legend. Hugh Jackman stars as an older version of the iconic hero who, after undertaking what’s supposed to be one final mission, ends up in a nunnery under the care of Sister Brigid (Jodie Comer). The story’s unique approach, which blends grit, a bit of historical accuracy, and reflection on the nature of myths and legends, is sure to find an audience when it hits HBO Max on October 16.
Next up is Olivia Wilde’s The Invite, which lands on the HBO Max streaming service on October 23. Written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, The Invite follows a couple on the rocks (Wilde and Seth Rogen) who host a dinner party with their upstairs neighbors (Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz). Little do they know, this dinner party will unspool the entire inner workings of their relationship. Acclaimed for its hilarious cast, unpredictable comedy, and Wilde’s skillful direction, The Invite is a must-watch for every HBO Max subscriber, as many industry insiders are calling it an early Oscar contender.
Naturally, HBO Max is adding plenty of classic horror films in time for Halloween. The first five A Nightmare on Elm Street movies, Friday the 13th (1980), and the cult crossover Freddy vs. Jason (2003) arrive at the top of the month. For something more family-friendly but still spooky, the critically acclaimed stop-motion animated films Coraline (2009), ParaNorman (2012), and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (2005) will be available to stream as well.
