New Arrivals for Netflix June 2021

by Yasmine Kandil
A collage of Kim's Convenience, Lupin Part 2, and the new original movie Awake, all coming to Netflix this June.

As we approach the halfway point of 2021, Netflix isn’t slowing down on releasing waves of brand new content, and this June packs a punch. There is plenty to choose from both new additions and returning titles. This month marks the comeback of Lupin, a Netflix original that took audiences by storm when it debuted in January. Wish Dragon, a new animated adventure with an all-Asian voice cast, will be the perfect choice to bring in the whole family this month. Meanwhile, Sweet Tooth and Godzilla Singular Point will surely satisfy comic-book and pop culture fans.

Even though we’ll say goodbye to beloved flicks such as Back to the Future and Crazy Stupid Love, we’ll be welcoming some equally adored ones, including Silver Lining’s Playbook and Stand by Me. If you’re looking for some lighthearted television, Netflix has some new and returning reality series to binge. If you love dating shows, check out the second season of Too Hot To Handle. If you’re into programs about travel and real estate, you can look forward to the debut of The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals.

Read more on our recs below along with the full list of everything coming to and leaving Netflix in June. See what’s also coming and leaving from Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+.

Our Recs:

Kim’s Convenience: Season 5

Beloved Canadian Sitcom Kim’s Convenience is coming to Netflix for its 5th and final season. The show follows Korean-Canadian family the Kims as they run their Toronto-based corner shop. Starring Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Jean Yoon, Andrea Bang, Andrew Phung, and Marvel’s very own Shang-Chi, Simu Lui, this finale is definitely not to miss.

Awake

Awake stars Gina Rodriguez and 13-year old actress Ariana Greenblatt, who many will recognize as Young Gamora from Avengers: Infinity War. The film follows a phenomenon of global insomnia, which scientists soon find out will become fatal if humans never regain the ability to sleep. When Jill (Rodriguez) discovers that her daughter (Greenblatt) could be the key to salvation, she must decide whether to protect her child or sacrifice everything to save the world.

Awake premieres on Netflix June 9!

Lupin Part 2

The January debut of Lupin was met with a multitude of rave reviews. This month, anxious fans will get to pick up the pieces with the premiere of its second part. Omay Sy leads this retelling of the classic French story of Arsène Lupin – the master of disguise.

Lupin Part 2 drops on Netflix June 11!

Wish Dragon

Following The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Sony Pictures Animation is looking to continue their impressive momentum on Netflix with Wish Dragon. The American-Chinese production is a retelling of the classic ‘genie in a bottle’ story set in modern-day Shanghai. Young college student Din (Jimmy Wong) is granted 3 wishes by the ancient dragon Long (John Cho), but all he really cares for is to get an old friend back. The two stars are joined by Constance Wu, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jimmy O. Yang, and Ronny Chieng to form a spectacular voice cast.

Wish Dragon hits Netflix June 11!

Too Hot To Handle: Season 2

To many people, summer is not complete without a cheesy dating game show. This year, Netflix subscribers should be pleased with season two of Too Hot To Handle – the perfect drama-filled, reality TV extravaganza. If you love programs such as Love Island, Love is Blind, or The Circle, this is right up your alley.

Season 2 of Too Hot To Handle hits Netflix June 23!

Godzilla Singular Point

Toho’s latest, and vastly different take on Godzilla finally comes to Netflix after premiering in Japan for some months now. This new anime series isn’t to be confused with Netflix’s previous ‘Godzilla Earth’ series. Singular Point aims to revamp Godzilla lore for fresh eyes, making for a solid gateway for anyone looking to dive into Godzilla’s extensive 60+ year history. Iconic characters such as Rodan, Anguirus, and Jet Jaguar are given modernized/alternative designs here, with Godzilla himself standing out as he rightfully should.

Godzilla Singular Point debuts on Netflix June 24!

Leaving Netflix June 2021

Sadly, Netflix is saying goodbye to some binge-worthy shows this June. Hannibal, Portlandia, The Twilight Zone, and Twin Peaks are all making their way out by the end of the month. Some neat films are also leaving, but they definitely don’t sting as much as losing all of the previously mentioned shows all within the same few weeks.
