With the release of Black Widow and Jungle Cruise on Premiere Access, July was far from a quiet month for Disney’s prestigious streaming service. Riding the high of July’s content-packed release slate, Disney+ will continue to bring shows and movies, new and old, to its eager subscribers throughout the month of August.

Where fans just witnessed the finale of Marvel’s Loki, August will welcome the final chapters of Lucasfilm’s first season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch. If you enjoyed the adventures of Omega and the crew or Loki and Sylvie, don’t fret – What If…?, the upcoming streaming series and first animated project from Marvel Studios, is sure to excite and entertain!

A number of cult classics will hit the service this month, including Mrs. Doubtfire starring Robin Williams and Aquamarine! The second and third films in the Beverly Hills Chihuahua series will also be available in the early part of August, if that’s more to your tastes. And if you want to revisit the 2006 adaptation of Eragon and learn why a reboot might be in order, you’ll be able to do that too! As for our recommendations, keep reading below and also check out August’s line ups for Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max right here on DiscussingFilm.

Our Recs:

What If…?

Marvel Studios' What If...? | Official Trailer | Disney+

After the season one finale of Loki, Marvel Studios is diving headfirst into the expansive storytelling treasure trove that is the multiverse. Reimagining the characters and stories of many beloved MCU movies, What If…? changes things up, asking questions like “What if Killmonger saved Tony Stark?” and “What if T’Challa became Star Lord?” The series brings back a number of the original MCU cast, including Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa.

The show assumes the same release schedule as Loki, with new episodes dropping on Disney+ each Wednesday, free for subscribers.

The first episode of What If…? hits Disney+ on August 11!

The previous two installments of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian have focused on the overall process of brining the series to life, touching on various episodes and subjects quickly and broadly. This episode, however, will hone in on the making of the final episode of the show’s second season.

The return of Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian finale was a highlight for many Star Wars fans. This special behind-the-scenes look will document the process of recreating an iconic character with the help of Mark Hamill and new visual effects technologies.

This new installment of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will be available on Disney+ August 25!

Cruella

Disney’s Cruella | Official Trailer 2

Released on Premiere Access in May, Disney’s live-action prequel to the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmations will finally be available for free on the platform this month. Featuring Emma Stone in a 1970s punk rock reimagining of the murderous antagonist, director Craig Gillespie’s (I, Tonya) film acts as an origin story for the villain, following Estella’s descent from a grifter lifestyle into one of madness and wickedness – that of Cruella De Vil. The film “is a surprisingly dark, multilayered tale that will surely entertain older audiences.”

The ostentatiously fashionable origins of Cruella will be available for free for Disney+ subscribers on August 27.
