Consistently gaining classic and cult films as well as new seasons of prominent shows, Hulu has found its niche as a high-quality streaming service for lovers of all things film and TV, and this August is no different. This month will mark the arrival of several exciting new releases, from the long-awaited tenth season of American Horror Story to Reservation Dogs, a fresh comedy series from Taika Waititi and Native American filmmaker Sterlin Harjo – all streaming only on Hulu.

If you’re in the mood for something nostalgic, look no further; the first film in the Mad Max franchise is among the new arrivals this August. For something a little more cathartic to match those high-stakes, Thelma & Louise will also join Hulu’s library. Additionally, two of 2009’s best cinematic releases, Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan and Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, will be available. And to top it all off, we’ll see new seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Archer, and more as we round out the summer months.

Keep reading below to see our streaming recommendations for Hulu this August, and check out our picks for Disney+, HBO Max, and Netflix.

Our Recs

Chaos Walking

Chaos Walking (2021 Movie) Official Trailer – Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland, Nick Jonas

Adapted from the book trilogy of the same name, Chaos Walking stars fan favorites Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley in a “wild, action-packed Western/Sci-fi hybrid” that “has a lot of heart and deals with sophisticated themes.” The film made waves after years of delays and reshoots, leaving many to expect a disastrous outcome. It opened, however, to middling reviews, with many pointing to the complex thematic material making up for what can sometimes be less than stellar storytelling. Is Chaos Walking good? You can find out yourself this month on Hulu.

Chaos Walking will be streaming on Hulu August 27!

American Horror Story Season 10 (Double Feature)

The tenth season of beloved horror series American Horror Story, subtitled Double Feature, will feature two spooky stories. With a returning cast that includes names like Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, and Evan Peters, the show will also add some newcomers – notably among them, Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin.

AHS has also seen its share of COVID-related delays. Originally meant to release in 2020, the FX on Hulu show is now set to premiere later this month. The marketing has been pretty secretive, so details are few and far between; while the show has shut down production due to potential COVID-19 exposure among the cast and crew, fans will have to sit tight for updates on what’s to come.

American Horror Story: Double Feature is set to premiere on August 26 on FX on Hulu.

Reservation Dogs

From creators Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi, Reservation Dogs follows four Indigenous teens taking on rural Oklahoma, drawing inspiration from the upbringings of its two head creatives. The comedy series will star a gang of four on their mischievous adventures in getting to the foreign land of California. According to its official description by FX, the show sets out to capture a large part of the Native experience, including Native rappers, catfish, Indigenous superstitions and spirits both hilarious and terrifying, laughter, tears, unexpected grandmothers, decent people, terrible people and a cavalcade of supporting characters who color and shade this already vibrant world.

Reservation Dogs premieres Monday August 9 on FX on Hulu.
