New Arrivals for Disney+ June 2022

by Andrew J. Salazar
Doctor Strange and Wong prepare for war with an army of sorcerers behind them guarding the Sanctum Sanctorum in DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, still coming to Disney+ in June 2022.

June 2022 has been one of the busiest months ever for Disney+. New episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms. Marvel have been premiering together, which is a rarity for the service. Disney+ subscribers are used to following either one Star Wars or Marvel series at a time, but as the platform grows along with the demand for more original programming, some crossover is inevitable. The more the merrier for subscribers though! And it’s not over yet because Disney+ still has some exciting premieres in store for June 2022, including the streaming release of Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness!

For those who’ve already got their filling of the MCU, there are plenty of more options to choose from in this month’s lineup. Already have tickets to see Lightyear? The behind-the-scenes special Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear is the perfect watch after coming back home from the theater. Love, Victor is now available on Disney+ for the first time as well, another new move for the streaming service which saw the show’s third season release simultaneously on Hulu. Additionally, the entirety of Glee is now on Disney+ after moving from Netflix. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ms. Marvel may be dominating the conversations on a weekly basis, but Disney+ has had a strong month overall so far, growing more in its variety little by little.

Our Recs:

Ms. Marvel

After a wave of glowing approval, Ms. Marvel now stands as the highest-rated MCU series thus far. Such an achievement doesn’t come so easily. Through its heartfelt approach and genuine on-screen representation, the series has struck a special chord with its target audience in ways that previous Marvel shows have severely lacked. This may be the best example of an MCU project that truly speaks to today’s young generation of fans without ever taking them for granted. “This story won’t be exactly for everyone, and that’s why it works.” Kamala Khan and her story are only being expressed in the sincerest of ways, and it’s just getting started with her already set to appear in The Marvels next year.

Catch new episodes of Ms. Mavrel every Wednesday this June on Disney+!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The MCU film with the fastest streaming turnaround so far, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives on Disney+ less than 2 months after its release. This beats both Shang-Chi and Eternals, which hit the streaming service a little over 2 months after they premiered in theaters. The return of comic book maestro Sam Raimi, this latest MCU flick boasts more creativity than most superhero films can conjure on their own. “Raimi embraces the imaginative capabilities of Strange to deliver easily the most thrilling and vibrant action scenes this franchise has seen in years.” It also wouldn’t be far-fetched to call this the MCU’s first dive into horror, and now it’s bound to shock more people from the comfort of their own homes.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives on Disney+ June 22, 2022!

Baymax!

There’s a lot more to Baymax! than meets the eye. This is the first spin-off series produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. All other shows to come from Disney films have been produced by Disney Television Animation so far, including Disney+’s own Monsters at Work and The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. Baymax! is truly the dawn of a new era for Walt Disney Animation, and it’s already set to be followed by Zootopia+ this November. Fans will be reunited with the beloved, huggable robot for six new episodic adventures that focus on his activities outside of the Big Hero 6 team as more of a caretaker for the people of San Fransokyo. Another fun fact, Baymax! officially makes Big Hero 6 the seventh Disney film to have more than one TV spin-off. This special club includes the likes of The Lion King and Lilo & Stitch.

Baymax! premieres on Disney+ June 28, 2022!
