Spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine follow!
Deadpool & Wolverine is slowly launching in theaters across the world, with fans lining up for late-night screenings and even a celebratory screening at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) for the third installment in the Ryan Reynolds-led franchise. What may be attracting even more moviegoers to see the film this early in its release cycle is the promise of the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, following the character’s emotional exit in Logan and the subsequent retirement of Hugh Jackman (The Son) from the role.
However, it was a short-lived retirement, as fans saw when Hugh Jackman (The Greatest Showman) announced his return as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy) back in 2022, and now fans across the world have been promised cameo returns from various other Marvel characters, only one major one of which has been confirmed so far; Dafne Keen (‘The Acolyte’) as X-23. Her return was revealed in the film’s final trailer, and there was a detailed interview with Entertainment Weekly on some of the specifics of her return in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Nevertheless, endless rumors and teases from Shawn Levy (The Adam Project, Free Guy), Ryan Reynolds, and the film’s crew would suggest that there is an abundance of cameos left to be found within that fans will be eagerly anticipating to see without being spoiled beforehand. Rumors of cameos have ranged from likely X-Men options like Patrick Stewart (Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness) returning again as Professor X or Josh Brolin (Dune Part 2) as Cable to even more outrageous predictions like Taylor Swift as Lady Deadpool. All of this is to say that, including early reactions from critics and some audience members alike, the cameos have been hyped up tremendously, and no fan wants to go into the movie spoiled of the excitement.
However, as we now approach the opening weekend, spoilers of cameos and plot details for Deadpool & Wolverine are expected endlessly, and now fans can even expect to potentially find out spoilers from the mouths of the cast themselves. Kevin Feige has just introduced the Deadpool & Wolverine panel at Hall H in SDCC, complete with a Wolverine-shaped mouth popcorn bucket for each attendee. After a short Q&A with stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Emma Corrin, they announced that they are showing all 6,500 attendees at Hall H the full film, but not only that. Fans in attendance have also been promised a Q&A with the cast afterward that will not shy away from spoilers.
As to keep the layer of secrecy around spoilers of Deadpool & Wolverine intact, rather than tweeting all of the juicy news that the cast and crew of the film share about the spoilers elements of this film, those who have seen Deadpool & Wolverine can instead look below to see some of the surprise cast members who arrived on the Hall H stage to cheer with fans
In addition to the below photos, Entertainment Weekly nabbed Chris Evans (‘Knives Out’) for an spoilery interview to reflect on his return as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine. Evans says on suiting up as The Human Torch again that “primarily because where we find Johnny, he’s meant to be a little more rundown, so the costume didn’t have to be pristine”
Reynolds asked Chris Evans if he would appear by only a simple text — “He just shot me a text saying, ‘Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?’ I said, ‘Oh my God! Of course!’” Evans continues to add that Ryan Reynolds might have been the only guy able to convince him to return — “Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would’ve done it for because he’s just got the Midas touch.”
Entertainment Weekly also managed to court Wesley Snipes for an interview where he broke his silence on his mind-blowing return as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine. In the interview, he explains that when he first heard about the cameo, he didn’t think it would be possible — “I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. I didn’t think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it — also because they had Mahershala cast for the next upcoming version of it.”
He continues by saying — “I thought it didn’t make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about,'” Snipes continues. “He told me the idea… They said ‘yes’ and ‘it’s a go.’ ‘If you’re in, we’re in.’ Here we are.”
He wraps up by talking about his insecurities on being action-ready to play Blade once again — “I don’t walk around as Blade every day, you know what I mean? With a trench coat and shades and fangs in my mouth. We had to work out” — but adds that the action ended up not being too big of a concern but instead it was the weather. He explains that “my nuts shriveled up to about that, brother. It was so very cold when we shot this. We started shooting before the strike, and that was in the summer. Then we had to come back, and it was winter.”
