The HBO Max January 2026 list of new arrivals is kicking off the new year in style. The Pitt Season 2 is our first recommendation of the month. The hit HBO Max original series won big at the 2025 Emmys, taking home 5 awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Noah Wyle. Audiences reunite with Dr. Robby for another 15-hour work shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Of course, the Emmy-winning medical procedural’s nail-biting gimmick is that each episode represents an hour of work in “The Pitt” in real time. The Pitt Season 2 premieres on January 8, almost exactly one year since the first season debuted.

HBO Max subscribers will be able to stream A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in January 2026, too. The latest Game of Thrones spin-off series is based on George R.R. Martin‘s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, set 90 years before the main A Song of Ice and Fire books. Fans will meet the legendary Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his young squire, Aegon Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell). To be specific, this is Aegon V, famously known as “Aegon the Unlikely,” who is Daenerys Targaryen’s great-grandfather. This first season, consisting of only 6 episodes, will follow Aegon’s adventures with the titular hedge knight, who fans will recognize as an ancestor of Brienne of Tarth.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will take the Game of Thrones franchise in a new direction when it premieres on January 18, with fewer episodes, each running 30 to 42 minutes. This is notably short for an HBO original series, but the Dunk and Egg novellas are thinner in length as well and fit perfectly into this kind of television format. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 has already been greenlit and is expected to arrive in 2027. Meanwhile, House of the Dragon Season 3 will be coming later in 2026, with a fourth season already in the works, too. Clearly, there’s never been a better time to be a Game of Thrones fan than now.

The HBO Max streaming service is also debuting Industry Season 4 on January 11. The financial thriller-drama will pit its leads, Pierpoint grads Harper Stern (Myha’la Herrold) and Yasmin Kara-Hanani (Marisa Abela), in another game of cat and mouse. Their twisted friendship begins to warp as their professional lives are further influenced by Yasmin’s romantic relationship with tech founder Sir Henry Muck (Kit Harington), and Harper’s mentorship under the enigmatic executive Whitney Halberstram (Max Minghella). Returning cast members for this latest season include Ken Leung, Miriam Petche, Sagar Radia, Toheeb Jimoh, Charlie Heaton, Amy James-Kelly, Roger Barclay, Andrew Havill, Kiernan Shipka, Kal Penn, Jack Farthing, Stephen Campbell Moore, Claire Forlani, and Edward Holcroft.

Finally, two award-buzzy A24 movies are making their HBO Max streaming debuts in January 2026. The first is writer-director Benny Safdie‘s biopic on MMA pioneer Mark Kerr, The Smashing Machine, which begins streaming on January 23. Next up, Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, a psychological dark comedy on postpartum depression, arrives on January 30. Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Rose Byrne received acting nominations at the 2026 Golden Globes for their respective performances in these films. Whether they can all make it to the 2026 Oscars remains to be seen, but the odds are looking especially strong for Byrne, an underrated veteran who is long overdue for this kind of recognition.
